Thank you Mike454 and jimtx for the SDM info. I order one each of the .300 pinned sight blades in green fiber and gold bead. I am looking to use the Bowen shallow v rear sight with a gold bead front as I had a similar setup years ago on a FA 83 in 475 Linebaugh and it was amazing how fast you could line up your shots. It was not the most precise set up, but it was great for quick shots out to 25 yards or so. At least quick if you ignore the time it takes for the recoil and bringing your arm back down from heavy 475 shots.

I recently acquired a new Ruger SA. It is one of the Lipseys special models, a stainless 4 5/8s chambered in 45 Colt / 45 ACP convertible that is built on the mid size flat top frame. I ordered a Bowen Classic's "Rough Country Flat Top Sight with V-notch/White-post Blade" and I am searching for a gold bead front sight. I think the dimensions for the current pinned front sight are .125 wide and .350 high. So far I have not been able to find a source for a gold bead front sight. Two questions;
1. Do I have the correct sight dimensions?
and
2. Does anyone know where I might find a gold bead front sight blader?
I also understand from my reading that the Ruger mid size frame is safe for factory 45 Colt loads, up to 14,000 psi and for "level II" 45 Colt loads, up to 20,000 psi but not "Ruger Only loads. Is that correct. Thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge.

I had a craving today to obtain a 454 Ruger Alaskan. I searched the local dealers and the internet. There seems to be a lot of 44 Magnum Alaskans, but a real shortage of 454's. Does anyone have an idea why this would be? I decided the Alaskan would fill my desire for a short barrel double action 45 Colt.

Okay, it is blasphemy, but for fun you put a loading port on the left side with a gravity feed tube loader and you have a single action gatling gun.

Does Anzio have any plans for a semi-auto in the future? Spare twenty round mags weigh twenty pounds each!

I have often lusted over Hamilton Bowen's 26 oz. 50 AE. I think I would like mine in 475 Linebaugh!

So Axe, you quite nicely side stepped the "which one is your favorite" question. How about an answer and maybe a list of calibers?

Okay. I just spoke with Colt and I quote, "we will not be shipping any P-1840's (SAA, 4 3/4 inch, 45 Colt, Color Case & Blue) until the end of March, and most if not all of those are to fill current orders and are already sold." First Stop in SD was the same story. Possible the end of March, or early April.

I have been calling every "candy store" in the Dallas / Ft Worth area and not a single new SAA in stock anywhere. Everyone tells me they can order one, but they have no idea how long it will take. Many of them said the suppliers are out of stock as well. Seems unlikely, except that I checked Davidson's and they have 0 in stock. Does that sound right? You would think with Colt making it clear they want to get back into the civilian market that they would want to have stock available for sale. Just thinking out loud.

I am considering purchase of a set of consecutive serial number 3rd Generation Colt SA in 45 Colt. The are a set of the Eldorado commemoratives and are circa 2005, if I am not mistaken. Can anyone help me with some details about the quality of Colt SA 3rd Generations from the 2005 time frame and especially this series of commemoratives?

I believe you are correct about SASS forbidding modifications to the hammer, however the mounted folks are more sensible and reasonable. Go figure, people who ride rather than walk are more sensible. Anyway, I think CMSA does allow such a modification.

I have the horses already and have been riding, cutting, penning, roping etc for a lot of years. I also hunt horseback and my best horse enjoys hunting. I have shot off him on more than one occasion. I have not however tried drawing, emptying one, re-holstering, drawing a second and emptying it as well. That would be a lot of coyotes, or some really bad shooting.

Thank you again. Looks like it will be worth my while to find one (or two) Montado(s) to try the feel. It is my understanding that there is a model with a rounded cylinder to allow for easier re-holstering and 3 1/2 inch barrels for easier handling while mounted. My preference would be Colts, but to get started and see if it is a long term pastime, I think the Rugers would be a good idea.

Thank you Mr. Taffin. May I ask which style Ruger hammer is easiest to reach with a short thumb. I seem to remember it was the Bisley, but I am not sure. Also are the different Ruger hammers interchangeable?
