I would guess that would sorta depend on the gun and the grip almost as much as the caliber.

Ahhhh... But it does come in the exquisite 45 ACP that allows the quickest reload known to man this side of a New York Reload...
Actually it does and they call it the 325 NG

I respectfully submit for consideration by the most worthy viewers of this golden thread that S&W may have created the holy grail(s) of fighting revolvers in their 396 and 329 Night Guard(s) I add the 329 only in that it will let you have 6 rounds of 44 special instead of the 5 held by the 396. When you add the glorious red light of a set of Crimson Trace grips you are close to experiencing the rapture of being invincible. The only thing missing from the S&W platforms is (drum role, are your ready?)
It does not come in 45 Colt ;D

I suspect you will cause more wear by disassembly for cleaning, and how you lube it

Maybe Mr. Keith carried an all steel full size 44 because he did not have the choices we have today. I would imagine he had access to some pretty nice 1911(s) and I believe his preference was to use a revolver of either DA or SA

Looking forward to seeing the new HB. Congratulations on all 3 counts, the birdshead, the breaktops and shooting clean.

Elmer Keith wasn't trying to conceal his weapon. Yep, Elmer lived in a time and place when carry meant carry. It did not matter much whether your jacket covered your gun or not. On the other hand he did travel to some "nanny state" places like Chicago and in "Hell I Was There" he speaks of concealing his Colt SA. I wonder what he would have said about an LCR or LCP?

what a great deal you got on those dies. you can also load 480 Ruger so that makes it $10 per caliber. That is the same logic that my ex used when she shopped

John, Thank you for the answer. I read this just minutes after I finished my call to Hogdon. If I did not know better I would believe it was you on the phone as their suggestion and comments were word for word what you wrote.
boxhead,
I will look at TiteGroup as a solution. Can you share with me what you like about Titegroup as opposed to other powders like Unique, H-110, Lil Gun etc.

Can anyone here advise me regarding Trail Boss and loads for a 300 Grain WFN lead bullet in the 45 Colt for a FA 97 4 1/2 inch. I am looking for a clean med to mild load in the 800 to 900 fps range. I can only find loads like this using Unique, but I was hoping to try Trail Boss.
One other question. Does anyone here use Trail Boss for light loads in the 45-70 with lead loads? If so would you mind sharing the particulars?
