Does seem a shame that no one has applied ultra light materials to a good packing single action, don't it? A 44 special, a 32 H&R and maybe an ultralight bearcat too....

Does hoss not remember the 3-screw Ruger Single Six lightweight .22 (aka 'Tri Color')?

How much lighter do you really need a bearcat? Any lighter would be called a "LCB" light compact bearcat in polymer frame? ;D

Naw, single actions should be made from steel and ivory. Or at least metal and wood. This light weight titanium - polymer fad has gone too far already. There is such as thing as being TOO light, to the point of being uncontrollable and painful to shoot.

No polymer please but there has to be room in the world for an alloy single action. Plenty of room for alloy autos and double action revolvers. We have single actions that are bone crushing powerful but why not a reasonably powerful light weight (25 to 30 oz.) single action sixgun.

Several years ago (probably closer to 10+ -- time just slips by these days), someone had Dave Clements build a lightweight single action .500 special. The purchaser backed out for some reason and Dave put it up for sale on his website. IRRC, the base gun was a Blackhawk and it was rebuilt using lightweight alloys combined with other lightening techniques and weighed under 30 oz. I was interested until Dave said the price was $3,000 plus. Knowing how the purchasing power of the dollar continues to erode, I regret passing on that gun. Wish I had saved the pictures he emailed me.

Gary Reeder's "Backpacker" is a large-frame Ruger 45 chopped down to about 28oz with a 4" barrel. Grip frame and ejector housing are Ruger aluminum parts polished to mostly-match an otherwise stainless gun. Recoil shield and loading gate are scalloped and steel is otherwise shaved here and there but it's not actually all that radical. Strength is supposedly same as a stocker - it can handle the 45LC+P loads but of course most shooters can't .

The tricolor single six was a bit before my time, and now they serve mainly as safe anchors, it would seem. I like the idea. The Colt Scout was built along those lines as well.

I have often lusted over Hamilton Bowen's 26 oz. 50 AE. I think I would like mine in 475 Linebaugh!

I got to handle Bowen's .50 AE "Lightweight". Whew, it was scary light. Hamilton said that it was difficult to shoot. The mind knew what was coming and the trigger finger just wouldn't pull..........
