I recently acquired a new Ruger SA. It is one of the Lipseys special models, a stainless 4 5/8s chambered in 45 Colt / 45 ACP convertible that is built on the mid size flat top frame. I ordered a Bowen Classic's "Rough Country Flat Top Sight with V-notch/White-post Blade" and I am searching for a gold bead front sight. I think the dimensions for the current pinned front sight are .125 wide and .350 high. So far I have not been able to find a source for a gold bead front sight. Two questions;
1. Do I have the correct sight dimensions?
and
2. Does anyone know where I might find a gold bead front sight blader?
I also understand from my reading that the Ruger mid size frame is safe for factory 45 Colt loads, up to 14,000 psi and for "level II" 45 Colt loads, up to 20,000 psi but not "Ruger Only loads. Is that correct. Thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge.

SDM sells a gold bead that I imagine you can install in your current front sight. www.sdmfabricating.com/Gold%20Bead.htmYour impression of mid frame load pressure is what I recall as well. I know they shouldn't be fed the full Ruger only loads but thought they could be fed loads at least to the 21k limit of the 45 ACP and 23k ACP +p level.

Mike is correct the gold bead company is SDM I bought them for my Bisley That I fitted a 45acp cylinder to making it a convertible, I shorten my barrel w/a deep dish 11 degree target crown and soldered on a Ruger SS pinned front sight base so I could change them like your doing, actually have the same Bowen rear that will go on it or my NIB Millett rear I got the .300 rear gold bead the other they sell is only .250. make sure to order the pinned version and not the S&W DX version for the quick change spring type, Midway sells SDM's and Brownells.

Thank you Mike454 and jimtx for the SDM info. I order one each of the .300 pinned sight blades in green fiber and gold bead. I am looking to use the Bowen shallow v rear sight with a gold bead front as I had a similar setup years ago on a FA 83 in 475 Linebaugh and it was amazing how fast you could line up your shots. It was not the most precise set up, but it was great for quick shots out to 25 yards or so. At least quick if you ignore the time it takes for the recoil and bringing your arm back down from heavy 475 shots.

Good Morning folks.
One more question if I may. Is the front sight roll pin and the corresponding hole on a Ruger SA a standard size and if so, what size drill bit is correct for drilling the new sight blade?
Thanks,
Steve
