What twist rate did ruger use in old model 41mag barrels? I have a new model that won't shoot 250+ any good, but up to 240's very well... credit it to the twist, myself. Never owned an old model so far I don't think the twist rate is a problem. This group is a 250gr WFNGC at 25yds from my NM Bisley. What load are you using?

Honestly, I just can't warm up to the Plow handle grip frame. I have a 4 5/8" 44spl from the original Lipsey's run that never gets used. I picked up a Bisley model and never looked back. I need to decide what to do with the plow handle version. Maybe find a Bisley grip frame and do a caliber conversion?

I agree with all of the preceding comments and will add one more thought for good measure.
As JFS stated, overtravel can be a contributor to the problem and in my experience, light hammer springs can be a problem also. The lock time on the Blackhawk is long and is even longer with a light spring. That is why I always use full power hammer springs.
That being said, nothing beats time behind the trigger.

The site is confusing, separate pages for standard, top shelf, etc.. Then lots of scrolling to caliber.. +1

I have some of that style (195gr SWCHP) to try in my 696. Seems like a perfect choice for the intended purpose.

I don't vary the loads I shoot so I like the Rough Country sight.
It's adjustable until I need it to be fixed.

Just a thought. Could it be machined out of black delrin to protect the finish of the blued guns? And possibly a delrin insert fitted under the aluminum examples? Seems like a piece of scotch tape on the frame would protect the finish without causing any interference with the mount. It's at least worth a try.

I've thought about this with regard to my 696. I wonder what bullet size has to do with any of this. My 696 has small throats (<.429) so I use small, soft bullets in this particular revolver instead of the normal 429421 sized to .431 that my other 44 specials use. My reasoning is there must be less stress on the forcing cone from a (slightly) smaller, softer bullet impacting at 850fps rather than Skeeter's load.
Or, at least I sleep better thinking it helps.
