I went New Model Mid-Frame with a S&W barrel There are no bad choices. That's what I'm looking for. Who did yours? Andy Horvath

Having worn a revolver concealed as a LEO for 30 years and a POST certified police firearms instructor for 23 years I have this advice. Don't bob the hammer unless you're skilled in DA shooting and it is your "goto" mode of fire. Under stress you will respond the way you were trained. As an instructor no one, on our ranges, qualified using the SA mode on a revolver. Using my 696 I can reliably hit the 8" steel plate at 25yds shooting double action. At 50 yards I expect hits on the plate but would worry the hell out of a man sized target for sure.

I had the hammer bobbed on my 696, not because it snagged on clothing but because my elbow kept hitting it. My Taurus M85 on the other hand was so that it would not snag.

I was about to start loading this afternoon and weighed a few bullets to see how consistent they were. The box from midway says “factory overrun hard cast bullets 240 grain.” Well the bullets actually weigh a consistent 251 grains. They look identical to Cast Performance 250 grain WFNGC. I called Midway to let them know and somehow ordered another 500 of them. I’m weak. Yeah, I went to Midway's website to see what you were referring to and ended up with a box for myself. And yes, they look identical to the 250gr that I have.

I have never been able to locate any published data for Alliant powders using the 250gr WFNGC bullet in 41 mag. The only place I've seen with published data is Hodgdon. I have seen reference to the 17.0gr load for 2400 on the internet. I've also seen Sixshot reference a load using 9.2gr of Unique.
I have had good success with this bullet in my 41 mag Bisley.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on these? rugercyl.com/ruger-cylinders/About half way down the page they show replacement 44-40 cylinders for mid frames and cylinder blanks for large frames.

I've wondered about the idea of a cylinder blank except with the idea of going to a smaller (327 Mag) caliber rather than larger.

Lyman cast bullet manual would be a good place to start. If you search YouTube you will find there are some decent videos demonstrating the process, just try to avoid the presenters with "big" personalities. TATV Canada has a good selection of basic videos.

I actually do too... Still a hardback reference manual would be excellent. Like the wildcat book Agreed
