In 2006, had to acquire a “limited” 50 year anniversary NM Flattop-44M. What a nice firearm, with crappy plastic grater grips and the Steel XR3 grip frame just too small to shoot anything but Specials. Really liked the gun, but the old XR3 is too small for my big meats in bigger calibers. Didn’t want to get rid of it because of it’s low early SN# 870-0383X and I like the 6.5” length barrel. … Ronnie Wells Grip Frame to the rescue. Went with the idea of making it a “Super 50th” using a Brass Hunter grip frame, Super Hammer, and using Hunter grip panels. I did straighten the Backstrap out, to keep it XR3 looking,,, call it a Super XR3-B grip frame.
