We really like lamb ( we butcher at 8-10 months, they are lighter weight but full size by then ) I've never really tried Mutton before... I don't think I'd have a problem with it, if it's more "gamey"... our lamb is not gamey at all... it tastes like something between Beef & a non gamy venison, & the chops are incredible at medium rare... not a lot of meat on a lamb chop on this hearty breed, at that age... 3 - 4 makes a meal for me, depending on size
we have a ewe that had problems with lambing last year, only had one lamb ( most mature ewes have 2 ) then lost her single, & didn't get bred last summer, when I had her in with the ram... so if she is no longer productive ( & we'll have to deal with that, sooner, as well as with the other ewes, & the ram eventually ) at some point in the future... we started our "lil flock" 4-5 years ago, so we haven't had any non productive adults that we've had to deal with yet...
I bought the stuff to make summer sausage & meat sticks, & jerky last year... I haven't had time to play with it yet... if the ewe I mentioned above, doesn't produce this spring, I may send her in to the locker & do all boneless & try Mutton & see if we actually like it... if we are not crazy about it, I'll have to get off my butt, get the grinder stuffer & digital smoker out, & try some seasoned stick recipes

as far as additional training...actually I was short of time, that & the last time I tackled him, he almost got the better of me... & if I wasn't dominant, that could create even more "issues" ( he's at least 75 lbs heavier now, than the last time we wrestled... & I'm a year older )
it's amazing how hard they can butt heads without any issues ( the Ewes butt heads quite a bit as they squabble for pecking order ) ours are all polled ( no horns ) and those girls will back up 20 feet apart, & bash each other 3-4 times until their dispute is settled, just like you see with wild rams do on the mountain...
I'm surprisingly pain free today...

I was loading up my lambs for the locker plant yesterday… with shortage of locker plant workers, we were pushed out a couple months longer than I like… we decided to keep a ewe lamb for breeding, and I had to unwire a pass thru between the 2 pens, to move the lamb in with our breeding ewes and ram… I used to have issues with the ram, butting, when we were both younger… when that happened I would tackle him , flip him on his back, & sit on him, and call all his girls over to see that he wasn’t the “big dog” that usually worked for several months, before he would try that again… it's been over a year since he has “rammed” me… yesterday I had turned my back to him to open the pass thru, and I didn’t see him back up and lower his head…. Mrs was watching, and couldn’t get the words out before I felt his “rammer” contact my butt… because I was bent over a little removing a twisted wire holding the pass thru closed, and the fact that he probably goes over 300 lbs now… he had no problem boosting me right over the fence… Mrs saw the whole thing, and was sure I got hurt… I was fine, but had to give her a little grief for not warning me, or at least recording it for funniest home videos… could have made some money out of that clip

as someone who used to be into aquariums, as much as I'm into guns now... I'm buying your definition better than WIKIs... the Oscar ( fish ) pictured on the link, is an albino ( pink eyes ) & we called them albino Oscars

That White non albino Buck would probably walk past me... with me hoping he got the chance to breed as many does as possible... if it were albino, I'd probably shoot it, as I've heard they are sterile, & seen a few of those around...
are those Piebald deer an actuaL breed, or a cross between something like that white buck, & a normal deer... if I had seen one in the woods, I would have likely shot it as well... but maybe not, since I've never seen one around here with that type of coloration... probably my the "in the woods, quick decision making tool" would be, have I ever seen one before... No... try to take a picture... yes... pull the trigger

not sure... are those still 5 shot revolvers ( are all BFR's 5 shots??? ) I'd do a 357 Max in the long frame, if they could do a 7 or 8 shot gun on the big BFR... I do have a stainless Dan Wesson 357 Max, that is double action, & has a 6 round cylinder... if they could cut some weight with an extra few chambers... I'd be in

So...I sold off between 1/3 & half of my guns a couple years ago... ( I used the funds to buy my 1960 El Camino )... at the point I was at, I was reloading more than 80 different calibers, & had run out of room, & I have a 2 room walk in gun safe room... that didn't mean I quit collecting, because, now I had more room... shortly afterwards I hired on, 2 high end custom projects... I would trade 3 "nothing special" Rugers to finance 1 high end custom... but would be in no hurry to get rid of several of my Rugers, that I either like the caliber, configuration or both... BTW... I don't own any FA revolvers, I just chose to do customs of about the same value, coincidentally on Ruger revolvers ... I've never had the chance to shoot a FA revolver, & don't run into them enough around here to think I need one yet...

My serial on the 45-70 starts with BR… so I can just switch and get an exact match to my 500 JRH… should aid on shooting, and help with holster fit, with the holster I’m building

when I lived in town, many years ago, I built one, for a large adult Doberman... (2) 3 foot steel round heavy gauge pipe posts with a 1/2" hole about 2" from the top, 60-70 feet apart, & sunk into the ground about 1" below the holes, with 7/16" coarse wire steel cable stretched between... then I dug a couple inches deep circle around the posts, & put a pile of concrete in a dome shape to go from flush with the ground, over the top of the post in the center... ( a 2x4 stub was pushed under the cable & up to the concrete while the concrete cured, removed after curing, this held the cable an inch & a half off the ground, after the concrete cured ) the cable was threaded through a section of medium weight log chain about 6-7 feet long, with a heavy duty dog clip on the other end... by covering the post completely, as well as tapering the cement from ground level, the chain wouldn't catch on the ends, & the dog had free reign of about 14 feet wide & 60- 70 feet long...
the dog run, ended up lasting longer than the dog did...
now that we live in the country, I just set up kennel sections in the shape & length I want... for temporary use...
for my big outside doggi, I have a big old mud bogger tire, with a heavy dog cable wrapped around it... with a 3 gallon bucket full of water in the middle... that's only for times that the big pup isn't behaving, & he's getting better as time goes, so the tire may go away permanently in pretty short order... we had an Amish visitor, a couple weeks ago in his horse drawn buggy... thought for sure I was going to need to put him on the tire, but he was pretty wary as he had never been around a horse, & the horse was very well trained... so it was a good educational experience for the dog...

45MAN…. I agree… however I ordered them from Fermin, with purpose in mind… I want to keep a properly regulated front sight, and a rear sight available to keep with the guns, for hunting situations, in case of electronic sight failure… I have stainless plug screws that will go on the guns, after I get the front sights regulated…
The one on the 45-70 is extra extra tall, as that barrel had more than 4” trimmed off it
The holster I’ll be making will be a leather chest flap holster, that will sit at about a 45* angle, and use Simply Rugged’s chesty puller system… I’ll be forming kydex as a liner, to give the leather some shape ( so it doesn’t just look like a pouch, and keep the guns secure… I was hoping that I could also fit my Super Blackhawk 480 Ruger in the same holster, but it’s likely enough of a challenge to fit the 2 BFR’s with different frame sizes… at least getting matching grip frames, will help with fit, and with consistency in grip and shooting

Thinking I want to change out the standard grip frame to a Bisley frame on my custom 45-70 BFR... sent the Magnum Research custom shop a message... got this reply... just in case anyone has been thinking about similar... I know my 45-70 is old enough to have had a Ruger rear sight, & stainless Super Blackhawk hammer... going to need to check my serial prefex... I'm building a custom holster, hoping I can fit both my long frame & short frame BFR's... thinking this would be easier if they had the same grip frame, with how I'm putting the chest holster together... these 2 guns...
