Thinking maybe something like this... turned into a 5 shot 50 GI www.gunbroker.com/item/922197623 ( this one is not my style of gun... looks to have been beat up on purpose to look old, for SASS... are those 2 "kill" notches on the hammer??? ) but finish it with a Montado or Super Blackhawk hammer, maybe a birdshead grip frame or one of Ronnie's "birds"... or a Bisley Grip & hammer... 3.5" to 5" barrel... maybe in stainless... would definitely want to keep the ejector, with a rimless case ( so no notches like my 45 Colt snubbie ) I'm OK with the fixed sights, as long as the front sight is regulated www.gunbroker.com/item/920789412

because I have a 50 A.E. revolver, my 500 JRH BFR, only sees hotter loads... the GI would offer something softer than the 50 A.E. which is still pretty respectable

this covers most factory ammos, & gives an idea what's been done so far... I'm not sure the difference in velocities of the 45 ACP out of a 1911, or out of a single action, but suspect the 50 GI would be similar by % www.guncrafterindustries.com/50-gi-ammunition/of course handloading opens a whole new can of worms... finding a lead bullet with a meplat as big or bigger than the Matt's 250 grain wadcutter I use in my 45 Colt EDC revolver would be a lot of spank for the powder burned...

So while I'm waiting for the 45-70 to come back home ( lead time expected right now, of 30-45 days ) I've pulled out a large piece of leather a full 1/4" thick... this I'm thinking a rounded corner rectangle, as a backer behind the holster... this will be what the shoulder straps attach to, & will hold the ( 10 on each side ) cartridge loops as described above, to hold 10 45-70 or 10 500 JRH cartridges... cartridge loops will only be the 6 ounce thickness, sewn onto the 12 or 14 ounce thickness rectangle also can then start on two more holsters, both fancy, one for my avatar gun, & one for more showy occasions for my engraved 45 snubbie... avatar gun gets the 6 ounce leather, with a piece of black stone washed ostrich leg leather on the outside This is an older one I made with brown Ostrich leg leather... for a 44 Special I used to own... may pull this one down, to modify & fit it to my 45 Colt Snubbie??? This a Beaver tail leather flap holster I made, back when I used to do it 5-10 years ago... picture taken before the Sam Browne stud was installed, so the flap is just tucked inside to hold the shape

one thing, I think the 50 GI is a lower pressure cartridge suitable for the 1911, so likely around the 45 ACP pressures
I don't have a donor gun, that I can think of right now anyway... just wondering how small it could go... the Super Blackhawk & BFR are obviously much larger ( still would like a cylinder for one or both of my 50 single actions )... maybe a Vaquero size frame???

I'm not really a semi auto guy, but am a big bore guy ( actually I don't shoot many mid bore guns, I have a tendency to gravitate towards both the small & big calibers )
I've never fired a 50 GI 1911, but have, for a while been thinking about a smaller revolver chambered in 50 GI... I have thought about a 50 GI Cylinder for my custom 50 A.E. Super Blackhawk, or for my 500 JRH BFR... but what really gets me going, is thoughts of something like...
anyone done something like a Single Six in 5 shot 50 GI???

My 1st Christmas with my now wife of 31 years... we were just dating ( might have been engaged ) I bought her a "Robie Jr. Robot from Radio Shack... she was doing some deep cleaning at the farm the other day, & came carrying the lil robot out to me... "can you get me some batteries for him please" she asked... the battery tray was not corroded so I was hoping he would work... but he's not powering up... she was an adult, so it wasn't abused... I'm guessing a wire broke off a terminal, either on the battery tray or the switch on the back... if it's something more??? going to try to get him up & running for valentines... any of you guys ever have one, or bought one for your kids??? an add for it, if you have no idea what I'm talking about... ( hers looks like new ) So... I have a good electrical company I use at work, several of the guys do commercial control circuits & such... I asked one of the owners if he could do me a favor... after explaining, he said drop it off, he thinks he has a couple guys that would get a kick out of working on it... liable to have as much into getting it running, as it did to buy it in the 1st place... but it would make MRS giddy if it came up to her with a valentine card this coming valentines day...

45-70 goes back to Magnum Research tomorrow to get a matching grip and grip frame to the 500 JRH… should help with shooting consistency, and make fitting the holster easier

See the “necessity is the mother of invention” thread in the lounge section, if you would like to follow along on the build… the 45-70 goes back to Magnum Research to get a grip frame that matches the 500 JRH… will help with shooting consistency, and ease in fitting the holster

I have made 15 or 20 a couple years ago… start with Tandy… and there are several holster makers here that can offer advice I sew everything by hand… I use a stitch marker ( looks like a spur on a handle ) that puts little dents to mark your stitches evenly… an awl can prepunch your holes, or there are little “pitchfork” looking tools that punch multiple holes at the same time… I’ve even used a drill press with tiny bit, to punch holes through multiple layers, or through stiffening agents ( I used aluminum sheet once, though on this project, the stiffener will be kydex I bought books on lacing, and tooling… did some tooling projects but not really any holsters… made my mother a tooled leather jewelry box with red roses with green stems and leaves When I started, I disassembled some dry rotted antique holsters and used them for patterns for some antique guns I had… this holster will be my own pattern and a new style

I had bought one new several years. back… I actually did not like it… the cylinder chambers are too close, being there are 10… at minimum it needs a reverse index pawl… I would often go a half click too far when ejecting, and have to go all the way around…
Love mine now… as I used it as a base for a custom 8 shot 257 Special

Is that your 5 shot 44-40??? If so, I’d do a 5 shot 44 Magnum… not sure how the timing works out between a 5 shot and 6 shot cylinders If that’s not your 5 shot 44-40… then “I” would do a group of cylinders, special… maybe even Russian… and because I have an original 44 American Bulldog ( basically 44 Russian cases shortened) I would do one of those as well

supposed to be a new 22 / 22 Mag single action coming... I'm pretty far removed from the SHOT show, but heard that out of the rumor mill... a couple pictured here www.fieldandstream.com/guns/new-handguns-shot-show-2022the Diamondback Sidekick was the one I was referring to... with a swing out cylinder single action revolver... diamondbackfirearms.com/sidekick/hmmm... 9 round 22 & 22 Magnum cylinders, & double action style ejection... interesting... I've not been a fan of the new Wrangler & other Aluminum / Zink alloy based single action revolvers, because of my past experience with them, but the Wrangler has a good following, so maybe material blends & processes have improved on them... this one does sound interesting
