I have a couple Simply Rugged flap holsters one to fit my stainless 4” barrel 22 J frame, and one for bigger guns, that barrels range from 2.5” to 3”… these are specifically for farm use, nothing carved, both are just plain tan leather… these are designed to protect the gun, from saw dust, and abuse… I’m not sitting in a tractor, dirt farming… I’m clearing trees, building pastures, putting up cattle panels, post hole digging, mixing cement, and installing gates, sometimes wrestling livestock.. I also spend a lot of time mowing during the summer… been doing this a while, and I haven’t found anything better than a Simply Rugged pancake flap holster
In fact, I got knocked off a pallet as high as the loader on the tractor could raise, cutting some high branches, I bounced off the loader and brushgaurd of the tractor in 4 places, before hitting the ground… let’s not worry at this point about stupidity, and just say my stainless J frame came through it better than I did …
I actually want something that will stay put, and protect the gun… I would not want to have to retrace my steps looking for either my revolver, or my holster, that fell off somewhere, while I was wrestling something heavy or awkward , the slotted pancakes allow a canted carry, or straight, and it doesn’t come off, unless I remove it

...AND... maybe we are actually ahead of the curve, because less and less "good" single actions are being made today, ( & unless there is a drastic change ), likely as well in the future... so if our future shooters are interested in one, they are likely to pay way more, & likely get way less quality in the future, if they are buying new... or they are just waiting around for us dinosaurs to die off, so they can experience a fine Single action for themselves... don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my 1960 El Camino ( the car I bought with the funds from my sell off a couple years ago ) but I'm pretty much kicking myself for selling a couple of the single actions, that I let go, to get the funds to pay cash for the car... to me the car is a sideways investment... it'll likely always be worth more than I paid, & they certainly aren't making those anymore... but thinking pretty much the same could be said for a good single action revolver... just call me T-Rex...

my local guy would thread brass or steel rods, epoxy the crack as best he could, then drill & epoxy, & screw the threaded rods in, then dress off the rod flush with the stock... seemed to work quite well... he did that to several old double, hammer shotguns we made coach guns out of for CASS... can't think of one failing afterwards... 577 is a low pressure round ( I always wanted to make something of medium pressure out of it, with a stronger than the standard Snider action... think I still have a few new cases, & a set of loading dies... ) now if MRS would get going on winning the lottery, maybe she would buy me that one

I've always wanted a tight 577 Snider... almost custom built one a few years ago... Dang I don't have enough bottles saved up to buy this one...

My pair of 51 Navies, were built to look like an original cartridge conversion ( so no loading gates ) they do not self eject while shooting normally... so going back to the pocket police... maybe the loading port is too large, too much space between the back of the cylinder, & the recoil shield... or maybe just the lower mass of the pocket police revolver... or the shorter case mine were chambered & guns marked marked for 38 Long Colt... but the specs are so close ( on purpose in my case ) that these will fire 38 Special also... though I have several 100 Starline 38 Long Colt cases

well these new 7 round compact 9's are slim... my 45 snubbie is about as small... maybe smaller in 2 of the dimensions... however the 6 round cylinder is probably twice as thick as a compact single stack "9" then there is the weight of a stainless gun, verses a plastic "9" with minimal metal... & of course the weight of the ammo... 6 rounds of 45 Colt with 250 grain Matt's wad-cutters verses 7 rounds of maybe 115 grain hollow points
now if we start talking a compact single stack "Super 30" we maybe get 8 rounds, & weigh a little less... trouble is... these smaller / lighter rely on bullet performance, & often, IMO, there are too many variables to guarantee performance... my 250 grain wad-cutters have proven predictable through a wide variety of conditions...
been tempted by the plastic single stack, but with a proper holster & a good gun belt... I think I'll keep my 45 Snubbie in use for a while yet... ( just call me T-Rex )

I also found myself wandering the powder isles, after dropping off my Rifle for a caliber change... they had 100's of 1 lb jars of powder, & several jugs... just not much I use... I did notice that accurate has changed to a red label... & they had exactly one pound of AA#5 ( I have plenty on hand, so I left it on the shelf )
most of their powders were Hodgdon powders... thinking I saw H4831... maybe try another shop???

I'll admit... that I'm concerned about "Lead & carbon build-up" but, I've never seen pitting... I had a pair of stainless 357 Magnum Vaqueros that may have had 1000's of rounds fired through them of lead 38 Special cartridges of medium load levels... after a CASS Match, it's difficult to to fully remove the little ridge... after several years & 1000's of rounds, of dedicated 38 Special use, it was difficult to insert a 357 cartridge...
so... I prefer to light load full length cases, rather than fire shorter cases in guns, than they are chambered for
but will admit, that while I've not seen chamber pitting... who really knows... if Lil Gun will pit the throats... it "could" "maybe" pit a chamber???

Funny... but all it takes is a really good western, or TV series, & it can really boost those single action sales... I watch Yellowstone ( too new to boost the Single action sales )... but if that 1883 show took off, in another year or two, they'll probably be into cartridge guns...
I expect I'll see a lot of single actions at the upcoming gun show I sell at... may have to make it a priority to bring a couple home, just to have a couple on hand for future projects...
but if they are too expensive... I may just have to add a 3rd BFR to my Single Actions
BTW... I really wasn't implying we were all old, but that the single action looks to be going the way of the dinosaur... & I have several semi autos, that would make great self protection guns... I just prefer to carry custom revolvers

So I took a rifle to a semi local gun smith / retail shop that advertises “5000 guns on hand”… for a custom chambering…would you believe only 2 non rimfire single action cartridge guns in the whole place… they had 4-5 of the cast alloy 22’s, and 1-2 Italian revolvers and that was it for single actions… Stopped at Cabelas on the way home… not one cartridge single action in the place… Cabelas must have had 18-20 “new” compact 9’s Couldn’t get close enough to the handgun counter at the 1st place to see what they had for semi autos Got home, patted my 45 snubbie on my belt, and took comfort in the fact, that if I’m a Dinosaur… at least I’m a T-Tex

It was finally my turn today… I just took a stainless “boat paddle” model 77 ( originally in 270 Winchester) to a semi local smith to get a stainless 7mm match grade barrel fit to it, chambered in 7 X 57… thinking it’ll be my middle range do all hunting rig… always have loved the 7X57… sold my original Mauser custom, but missed the cartridge so much, that I decided to do a semi custom in stainless…
I have stainless “boat paddle” in 243 for lighter use, and a Browning stainless stalker in 338 Win Mag for heavier use

I'm also not a huge fan of the looong cylinder guns ( I have a 357 Max Dan Wesson & before the BFR, it felt like a big thing clunking into firing position... however the 45-70 doesn't come with any other real option this 45-70 got lots better balancing, when the "extra" barrel length was cut off ( originally a 10" )... it's at Magnum Research getting a Bisley grip frame & black Micarta scales, right now... it'll better match up to the 500 JRH below it in this picture... I like the wood grip better than the black rubber grips that were on it before I started modifying it, but I really prefer the grips on the 500, matching them should make shooting more consistent between the two, & I'm building a chest holster that will fit both... Not sure where to go with the 500 JRH as far as lever guns... maybe buy one of those 500 S&W levers, then after spending all that money, pull the barrel & shorten the chamber to 500 JRH... not there yet, with funds... but I did have Bullberry build me an Encore carbine in 500 JRH, until then

you are a lucky guy... I've been wanting one of those, for as long as I've had my 480 Super Blackhawk... hoping Ruger is listening, & gets with it, with the Marlins "soon" before I do something rash, like build my own...
as far as levers in revolver calibers... I think they are naturals... got a 38 / 357, got a 45 Colt, got a custom 50 A.E. Marlin, to match up with my custom 5 shot 50 A.E. Super Blackhawk... got a custom 45-70 BFR revolver to match up with my Marlin Guide Gun...
... so... ya, I'm all in for a 480

... Thanks for bumping... saw the original post & liked that... but missed out on all the good stuff that followed... I have 3 pieces of nice Koa here as well... actually have a pretty good collection of grip woods... but every time I send Zane a grip frame, seems like he has something nicer to use... I have a cool dedicated 40 S&W 3 screw that Dave Clements did the conversion on, I got from a member here... the grips were still factory, & didn't fit as well as Zane is capable of doing, so like your 50 GI, off my 40 S&W grip frame went to LSCG... he seemed to find a blank of Walnut I liked better than what I had... so I'm ( trying really hard to wait patiently ) for the pictures, & for him to tell me to send the money I think he is in the process of applying the finish I also think those copper colored powder coat bullets look awesome I'm thinking I need to continue down my own 50 GI rabbit hole.... your's sure is a beauty I'm also not a fan of the rebated Rim... I understand it's use most of the time, it's to fit an existing gun's bolt face to make conversions easier or cheaper... I shoot 50 A.E. ( also rebated ) it was supposed to fit a 44 Magnum bolt face on the Desert Eagles, so they could sell Deagles with conversion kits, just swap barrels & magazines... I've never had an issue with the rebated rim on the 50 A.E. in either the Automag 5, I used to own, or in my custom Super Blackhawk ... I've not shot anything in 50 Beowulf, but have heard of numerous cases of separation at the rebated rim on that cartridge... On the 50 GI, I wouldn't expect any issues with the rebated rim in a revolver... but it may shorten case life in an auto, because it sure does look thin on the fat stubbie cartridge
