BB44, not sure what's in the video but I emailed Ruger and asked if they were producing a 4 5/8" Bisley .45 Colt, and they replied in the negative. For now, the only option is to convert one from plowhandle to Bisley, but they're hard to come by. The 3 3/4 45 Bisley Convertible is at about 14:40 in the video. Strange though that's it's not in the catalog, at least not yet.

My understanding on the .500 Linebaugh is to use magnum pistol primers only. Rifle primers, so sayeth Jack Huntington, will create too much pressure in the cartridge. ^^^^^^^^this^^^^^^^^ Also this. Light primer strikes with the harder rifle primers in this test. 500L Primer Testsingleactions.proboards.com/thread/9960/500-linebaugh-primer-questionFeb 5, 2013 at 1:51pm jwp475 said: Large pistol mag primers are the best in the Linebaugh cartridges, large rifle primers increase pressure sometimes as much as 10,000 PSI with out a corrosponding increase in velocity That number came straight out of John Linebaughs mouth. He has pressure test barrels and has pressure tested different primers. The large rifle primer over ignites the powder effectively increasing the burn rate. I have always used large pistol primers in the 475L abnd 500L.

Ya, didn't that thing have a tube magazine feeding the cylinder where the loading gate was? I can't remember if it activated by gas or recoil. Maybe it was mechanical in that when he cocked the hammer it would load another shell. I think he had like a 6 rnd tube giving him a 12 round SA. There used to be a bunch of pics of it on the net.
This one sure looks weird though huh?

This thread is kind of an extension of this one.... Shooting the Big Boomers UnsupportedHere's some standing off-hand shooting I was doing getting ready for moose hunting this year with the 500L. 53yds off hand, 455gr 1325fps. 12" steel, 9" circle. Into the sun, standing off hand, first 2 were in the center, next 2 were out, not sure where the 5th one went. I seem to be consistent in that my first 2 or 3 shots are the most accurate. Which is good for hunting I suppose but bad for pretty groups! At this point I think that on a good day I MIGHT be able to meet the 6" challenge at 50yds with the 500L. Awful close here, the 4 on the steel are about 6". The practice paid off. I killed a moose with one shot to the neck as he faced me, standing off-hand, 47 yds, 500L 455gr 1325fps.

I'm just trying to stir up the qualified folks! Many here have forgotten more than I know! Morning thoughts, for a 100 yard game : Can a heavy 45 Colt out perform a light and fast 454? And will the Smith 460 smash everything with pure speed? (I hadn't thought about the X Frame so far, the 460 could be very hard to beat!) I'd be interested in this as time goes by. Even though I always seem to have that one flyer that screws up my pretty groups, no matter what gun/load I'm shooting! These are the first 100 yard rounds I ever shot from my 45 Colt BisHunter. One load is a heavy 45 Colt Top target: First two rounds were on the left, last 3 are the cloverleaf. This is a 355gr wfngc I cast from an LBT mould, waterdropped wheelweights, LBT blue. 2x Weaver scope. I've reamed the throats to .4525 and recut the forcing cone to 11 degrees and have done some trigger work, springs and basepin are stock. I've since shot it out to 117yds and found that beyond that I get a pattern, might be me or the boolit destabilizes, who knows. I don't really care because this is a hunting load/gun and 100yds is my max. I took three Sitka Blacktails with it this November, including one at a little over 100yds. Bottom Target: Lee 255gr rnfp planebase, 8.5 Unique. Air cooled wheelweights. POA was the top target. I've begun experimenting with the Lee 255gr rnfp plane base with H110 at 1400+ and it looks promising. I need to shoot it more but my go-to load is the 355gr. I just need to spend time at the bench I think. I've shot lots of the 355gr at paper plates and steel from field positions for hunting more than I have bench shooting for tight groups. I think I need to pay attention to each chamber as well. Perhaps number them to see if one is always a flyer.

The more I think about this the more I'm leaning towards a 4 5/8 Stainless 45. See how it shoots, how I like it with the plow handle grip and go from there. I've read good things about these guns, not too many issues other than possible tight throats on the 45 auto cylinder. I had a 50th ann 44 flat top that I bought as a donor gun for the 500L. I never did shoot it but like how it felt in my hand and liked the indexing pawl setup as well. If these guns feel like that one I may just leave it alone.
I've never really gotten too excited about 45 auto in a wheelgun but I just got done looking at the huge pile of brass I have while doing some loading. For a fun shooter I can make my powder and lead go further. Now to sell off a couple old long guns to finance it.

It'll be real easy if you want stainless. Lipsey's just announced these. I sure like the looks of the 44spc Bisley flattop and now the stainless 44spc Bisley flattop they are releasing. But no word of one in 45 Colt that I've seen.

So let's say the goal is to have a 6 shot 45 Colt MidFrame FlatTop Bisley. Either blue or stainless. What would your approach be? Buy a 45 Colt and have it Bisleyized. Buy a 44spc FlatTop and have it converted. WHY NOT JUST BUY A RUGER .45 FLAT-TOP MID-FRAME? STAINLESS OR BLUE BOTH WITH EXTRA ACP CYLINDERS. YOUR CHOICE. I'm thinking this is what I'll do and then Bisleyize it.

Been there, done that. I purchased a stainless Lipsey .45 Flattop convertible and mated it with a stainless Bisley grip, trigger and hammer. It was a close fit and required only minor sanding to make it look like it came that way from Ruger. I had John Gallagher cut the ACP cylinder for .45 Auto Rim. The finished package is a very slick, handy sixgun. Because I limit this revolver to 280 gr. SWC @ 900 fps, it would handle as well without the Bisley grip. I have a second unmodified .45 Flattop that is comfortable with the same sub 23,000 psi loads I use in its Bisley-ized twin. I prefer Bisley gripped Rugers, but it's recoil reducing characteristics are not necessary with mid-frame loads, IMHO. That looks pretty nice. Was it a new grip frame or a takeoff from another gun? Where did you have to file/sand on the grip frame? The transition between the two looks pretty good from your pic.

I once walked from 70* outdoors, jeans and a polo, into a room that was -40*. 110 degree temperature swing walking thru a doorway! My eloquent words upon entering the room? "Cool." Somebody in Fairbanks could do 120 or more by that sign above! Ive walked from -40° outside to +70° inside. It was like sticking my head in an oven. Yup... I did that today!
