Lou says it'll be a few months before he can start on it. If anyone has a line on some rough Dall pieces over a year old that could be had I'd appreciate it. You might check with Rob Rowen. He may still have some Dall Sheep horn from a ram I shot a few years ago. He recently made these for me out of some of the horn.

Thanks guys! Sorry for not getting back to my own thread, but I got snowed under at work immediately after posting. Synd's quad magnaported "Advantage" SRH is what I had in mind. I talked to Magnaport about doing that to a BFR .500 JRH and a .480 Ruger Bisley SBH. A buddy of mine sent his grey 480 SRH off to Magnaport the same time I sent my Redhawk. He had the 480 Advantage treatment done to his. I turned out nice.

I've read good and bad. No personal dealings though.

I have really wanted one a while and one came up on GB. The price is at $1200 now with 3 days left. Is the 45 colt the reason for the price? Is the price as high as I think? any thoughts from anyone who watches such things would be appreciated. Should I pull the trigger on this one? Yes, 45 Colt is the reason for the higher price. Limited number of them produced. 44's are a dime a dozen. Here's the skinny on the 45 Colt BisHunters. Not 1982 www.lipseysguns.com/post/Ruger-Super-Blackhawk-Hunter-Bisley-45-Colt.aspxI have one and it's a keeper. Every load from mild to wild shoots great. Here's a couple examples. first 2 shots on the left. Last 3 cloverleaf. 2X weaver. 355gr gc LBT wfn 255gr Lee rnfp planebase

Disarm the NPS and they wouldn't have this problem.

4 port mag-na-port on my 4" 454 Redhawk really tamed the muzzle flip/torque which is what I was after and is what mag-na-port is for. I can't say for sure if it pushed the recoil back more. I suppose it could have but since the flip is tamed maybe I don't perceive it or maybe I'm just used to it. I like it on this gun but won't get in done on my 45 Colt BisHunter or 500L Bisley but would do it again on the 4" 454 RH. From what I've gleened it seems to be more effective on short barreled, high recoil gun/loads. Ya the front sight gets a little dirty after awhile but I don't care. It's my backup, berry patch, fishin, oh$41t gun. It now sports Uncle Mikes/Butler creek grips and a HiViz front sight. I've shot it quite a bit with this sight and it hasn't melted it yet. Maybe the raised rib on the RH barrel helps. I love this gun.

Oh, I wanted to ask, What's with the thought of carrying the same as local PD? Thnx We can't get Black Talon/Ranger 45 ammo can we? If the cops have it it's "good guy ammo". If anyone else has it it's called "Cop Killer" ammo. Prosecution....... "Why did you shoot the bad guy with hand made ammunition?"...... Answer...."Because I can't buy Black Talons or Ranger's!!!!!"

I don't buy into the "only use factory ammo" argument. Makes for a good magazine article though. Probably attracts a few advertisers.
First off. Is there a LAW in your state that specifically states what ammunition you can or cannot use in self defense? Is there a Federal Law? Is handloaded ammo illegal? Nope, nope and nope. Well, maybe DC or California. Oh, California has a lead ban so you could probably go to jail if you shot the bad guy with a cast boolit. If you have to use your firearm in self defense and IF you are found guilty of killing someone without "just cause" or whatever legal term it is... It won't be because you used handloaded ammo. It will be because you were not justified in the use of deadly force.
If one is worried about getting sued because you killed a bad guy with hand loaded ammo I think you are taking up the wrong point to worry about. One should be more concerned with reliability and effectiveness of the ammo. Here in Alaska we are protected from Civil action if found not guilty in using deadly force.
All kinds of what-if scenarios. What if I'm in a campground with my 454 Redhawk loaded with my handloaded bear/hunting ammo and a bad guy breaks into my camper in the middle of the night and I shoot him dead. Am I now somehow guilty of "hunting" the bad guy because I used hunting ammo in self defense? Bosh...

Nice! I think I'll end up selling this one I have. I'm just too steeped in casting, loading and shooting my pistols and still have areas I want to explore. Why not just get another barrel? This is a CPA Stevens 44 1/2, one action, three barrels and two different stocks. 38-55 Winchester, 30-40 Krag and 218 Mashburn Bee.
