Snyd, what kind of horn is the grip made out of? Unbelievably beautiful. Same for the other gentleman’s. Ya, Dall Sheep from a Ram I killed in the Brooks Range here in Alaska. Not the Ram in my avatar, that's my FA 454 Ram and he's on the wall! Horns and gun went to Rob Rowen. A couple other guys here got some of the same horn from that Ram on their guns by Rob. I hiked in over 15 miles with my partner and we got 2 Rams on that trip. Had to make two 30+ mile round trips to pack out both rams. I did a euro mount on the horns and a few years later decided to put them on the Gallagher (RIP) 500L that Bowen massaged. So its a Gallagher, Bowen, Rowen gun with horn from a Ram I killed. A special keepsake to me for sure. Oh, and I did manage to kill a moose with it just after I got it. So it's got some blood on it!

...That being said I am kinda curious as to everyone’s reasoning. Also was there a reason the particular caliber?.... Here's a good reason. Too much fun. Steel goes CLANG! instead of plink.... My 357 and 500L...

Glad to hear you lived to tell the tale. Get yourself a SPOT or an InReach mini. We got a SPOT years ago and I've used it to send the Wifey "I'm OK" check-in messages sheep hunting, etc. for years. Of course it has an SOS button if needed. We camp and hike in lots of places here in AK that have no cell access. I pack bug dope for bugs, a gun for bears and the SPOT for that "oh $hit" SOS moment we all hope we never have. The SPOT lives in my pocket when I/we are out remote. NOT "back at camp" or in the glove box, backpack, etc. Treat it like a sidearm, it's gotta be at hand when things go sideways. I had my 4" Redhawk that I put a 454 cylinder in MagnaPorted. That gun really had some flip and torque to it. Magnaport tamed it. Yup, redirected the recoil but Uncle Mike Grips make it work for me. Also had my Kimber Montana 325wsm Magnaported. Light gun with a pencil barrel. That gun had tremedous muzzle flip and wanted to twist right off your shoulder. Magnaport did the trick.
My 7.5 FA 454 is not ported, sports a 4X Leupold and will stay that way.

Weaver did however discontinue the 2X28. Bummer. I used to have one. Sold it to a member here and wish I'd kept it.

Great score! I bought one years ago for a base gun. A friend and I were really impressed with it and it would have been a great keeper but I was on a quest. John Gallagher RIP turned it into an Octagon, Bisley 500L.

I grew up and lived in Missoula Montana until moving here to Alaska in 91. I worked at Bitteroot Motors in the 80's up to 91, the Ford and Toyota dealership there in Missoula. Hank came in an bought a couple Landcruisers over the years I worked there. He had BLKHWK on the license plate of one of his rigs. He loved to go 4 wheelin in mtns of MT. Hank Jr and his bride frequented the Bitteroot Valley to and from his place to Missoula and would stop in at a few of the local establishments along the way. My step dad delivered/sold beer and wine to those places from Missoula to Darby. Some of the locals didn't care for him much cuz he wouldnt always sing them a song when he stopped in. I suspect he just wanted to pass through and not be bothered. I get it. On another note. My Daughter was born in Missoula 83 with a cleft pallet (no cleft lip thankfully) and the surgeon that did her pallet repair in 84 was the same surgeon that worked on Hank Jr.

Ok, I'll quickly be thrown under the bus for this one. I've got five presses set up all the time. Yet, the one I use 99% of the time is the Lee Classic Turret Press. I don't care for the Lee Aluminum Presses, but the iron ones are excellent. Most of the time, Lee Dies too. For lube, nothing but the Redding Sizing Wax. I still lube even when using Carbide Dies... Me too. Lee Classic Cast and Lee Classic Turret. Mostly Lee Dies except for 500L, Hornady. Redding Profile Crimp die for full house 454 loads. The Classic Turrent with the Powder Thru expander die is a slick setup. Also the expander die is easily modified to only flare the case and not expand it.

I guess you we not around when the lead shot ban took effect. What happened was the claim was made that waterfowl were ingesting lead shot while feeding in ponds and dying from lead poisoning. The claim did not hold water (pun intended) because only puddle ducks feed on the bottom so that would eliminate all the non-puddle duck species. They still used it to ban lead shot for all migratory bird hunting. At the same time, the people like me said to heck with waterfowl hunting if that's what they are going to do. So the population exploded and over populated the wetlands. Tree huggers never give a nickel toward purchasing land for animal habitat so the over population caused cholera and millions of birds died. Many times more than were killed by any other means. Next came the California claim of condors ingesting lead from gut piles left by hunters. No investigation of the number killed by automobiles, windmills, or industrial pollutants. That was merrily a backdoor way to band hunting by tree huggers. It worked so well in California, they decided to take that show on the road. The only way they are going to have the backing of hunters is to do legitimate studies that reflect the true cause of declines in the species they claim are harmed. That is not going to take place because they know it is all b.s. like everything else the globalist cabal is pushing. As for my remark about a little lead poisoning being a good thing, I believe it was evident that was satire and not to be taken as a legitimate suggestion. Grampa and I just kept a few 3inch 12g #2's handy for when the geese came in! I still remember shooting mallards over decoys with steel shot, wings set, watched em roll and tumble in the air and fly away. Lucky and Tuffy the Chessies looked at as with disgust...

Reading the post about lead or jacketed bullets for hunting got me thinking. What will everyone do when lead is banned for hunting ? As much as I hate the thought it’s coming. Already has in some locations. I'll take my chances and pay the fine. It's just like the banning of felt soled waders here in Alaska. I think it was Trout Unlimited that pushed and got it put in place here in AK. First state to do so. Made us a poster child. They failed to tell the migrating Caribou to not walk from one stream to the other though while they were at it. The wifey and I have a special spot we hike into to fly fish. No way I'm gonna have her slipping around on rocks taking a chance of falling and breaking something. Much cheaper to pay a fine. My .02

Never heard of a "45 LC Colt". Perhaps one of a kind hence the hefty price....

Sweet! My mouth is watering!! Looks like you had perfect weather! At least for the picture! We had a tough season here north of Fairbanks. Lots of high wind, fog, sideways rain, etc. I didn't see a bull in a week. My buddy and his son did get one a few days later in a weather window. Congrats, must have been a fun, adrenaline filled stalk!
