Just picked up my first 500 Linebaugh. Its a Bowen Stainless with an octagon barrel. Have been looking at load data and have seen data with both large pistol magnum and also large rifle primers. Which do you prefer and why?
Also, what is your favorite powder for heavier bullets? I have a lot of H110 on hand.
Thanks guys.

Congrats on the 500L! Keep us posted on your loads. I've still got a few months before I get mine.

For the past 20 years I have used WLPs for everything, always. I've heard of problems with them not working well in the cold but I never wanted to shoot when it was so cold out anyway. In a recent handloader, Brian Pearce had pressure tests run and WLPs ran 100 fps (1200 fps vs 1300) lower velocity with 33% lower pressure than federal magnum primers.

CCI 350's for reduced and top 500 Linebaugh have always worked for me. I see no reason use large rifle. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

we have tried some WC 820 loads with rifle primers, can be useful since the pockets are cut for rifle primers anyway. Never had cold temperature issues with rifle primers..............

Sounds like a beauty. I bet it would love CCI 350's and H110.

If my winters didn't get so cold, I would likely shoot nothing but h110 all year in my 500's and 475's. If you look, you will also find a lot of nice plinking to mid-range loads with HS6 which is also a favorite. Enjoy.

Large pistol mag primers are the best in the Linebaugh cartridges, large rifle primers increase pressure sometimes as much as 10,000 PSI with out a corrosponding increase in velocity

That number came straight out of John Linebaughs mouth. He has pressure test barrels and has pressure tested different primers. The large rifle primer over ignites the powder effectively increasing the burn rate. I have always used large pistol primers in the 475L abnd 500L.

Brian Pearce shows a 13,500 psi increase from when switching from WLPs to 350s with a 100 fps velocity increase in ruger 45 colt loads using identical charges of enforcer powder. Linebaugh likes WLPs

J.L. reiterated same yesterday. He still recommends WLP's.

I use the WLP's.
But, more importantly, got a camera? We all love pictures! Congratulations on your new gun! Tim
