Howdy All, The single-action gods were smiling on me today, because I found this gem just waiting for me to take her home. It's a Freedom Arms Model 83 "Alaska Master Guide Series", chambered in 454 Casull. It came with the original box and paperwork, and a ONE HOLE test target. I don't really know that much about these, other than they were a special run. One blurb I found in a quick Internet search said there were only 26 made. Is that right? Anyone have any additional information? These aren't the best of pics (cell phone), but it was dark when I got it home and I couldn't wait until "glamour shot" weather to get some pictures posted. I ran across a similar one here in Fairbanks, AK back in 2017 at a LGS when I was looking for a FA 454. The one here looked like it had been packed quite a bit and I thought it was priced a little high. I emailed FA. Here's the exchange... hmm. It was around Christmas time too. There was an Alaskan Dealer that was having these guns done with the engraving. Hello from Fairbanks, Alaska. I have a question that I hope you can answer for me. I am looking at a Model 83 here in town and I’d like to know what the original build configuration was on the gun, when it was made and any other pertinent info that you can give me. There is no original box or paperwork with it. The serial number is DF 6496. Current configuration: It’s a Model 83 454, 6” barrel with laminated grips. It has “Interior Grizzly’ engraved on the back strap and “Alaska Wildlife” stenciled on the barrel. It also has a jeweled hammer and trigger. It has the old style firing pin. Is there anything I should look for specifically regarding the firing pin or anything else? Thanks and Merry Christmas Perry Perry, There were 10 of those made 6/7/1993. The had evergreen grips, express sights and the polish and jewel. They are Field Grade models. They were all ordered by an Alaskan dealer. Without seeing the revolver, it is hard for us to discuss anything you may need to consider. Regards, Lori @ Freedom Arms

Meet Mr. Brooks the Long haired Dachsund. Got him at 8 weeks old, he's 14 weeks now. He's turning out to be a good one. He and our 10 year old long haired female play and wrestle. She hasn't beat him up yet, she slapped around a couple times so it appears they have worked it out. He loves romping in the snow but is scared of the sound of motors at this point.

I did not know the Rossi had the removable loading tube like a Henry Is that a good thing? Will these also shoot 45 Colt without a hiccup? I've shot numerous 454 and 45 Colt loads in mine. Nose profile of the boolit seems to be the key factor. The first 454's and 480's did not have a threaded tube so that was a bad thing. The tube would move forward out of the receiver. Mine is threaded and I have no problems with it.

Happy no one bid, guess I got a Black Friday deal. Unfortunately this one will be parted out to create a long cylinder custom. Looks a great one for a 500L Max! Serial number looks low enough to enlarge the frame. What are gonna have built?

After shooting only one round of full house 454 ammo through a FA-83, I do not want to imagine the pain of a 454 Redhawk (or Super Redhawk). Pachmayr grips make the difference for me with FA 454 loads.

Anyone had a 4" Ruger Redhawk converted to454 Casull? Thoughts? Yes. I've done it. Got a deal on a SRH, made the swap, sold leftovers, didn't cost me anything. But, given the strength of the 45 Colt Redhawk, if it were going to cost me any money, I'd not do it again. Here's a few pics of the process when I did it several years ago. All you do is pull the cylinders off the cranes and swap them. For my gun headspace, Cylinder gap, endshake were all in spec. I put the 45 Colt cylinder in the SRH ( a guy wanted it). It's my O$h1T backup, fishin, beary-patch gun here in AK. 355gr wfn a little over 1300fps from the 4inch barrel. Modified Lee expander die no expansion just a little flare when reloading and heavy crimp with Redding Profile crimp die keeps boolits from jumping after 12 round test. Magnaport tamed the muzzle flip and torque. Uncle Mikes grips save the thumb. it's beast for sure.

Looking for a holster for the super blackhawk hunter with rail. Hoping maybe one of you guys have one gathering dust. Or just some advice on what type of rig you favor. Scoped or not? If you scope it the Von Ringler Wyoming Combination holster is perfect. I've used one for years. You can wear it over the shoulder or around your waist crossdraw or strong side. Von makes them for non-scoped as well and it has an ammo pouch on it. I have a buddy that has one like that.

Congratulations. Nice bull. As was said, processing and packing it out is an undertaking. It’s all just part of it. There is something special about taking an animal in the wilderness where man can’t be heard or seen. Yes, you are right about that for sure. Thanks for sharing. Fantastic hunt right there.

Rowen is 5 years out on grips right now, but I totally agree. I have a Bowen right now that needs Rowen grips! I’m on the list and happy to wait. Wow. Good for Rob having the work. It will be worth the wait. A few years back I sent him some Dall Sheep horn from a Ram I'd shot. I think it was only a few months and that was because after cutting the slabs of horn they needed to be soaked/flattened/dried, etc. It will be worth the wait. Rob had me send him a tracing of my hand along with the gun so he could get the palm swell right. They are perfect and the fit to the gun could be no better. Here are the Rowen Sheep Horn grips on the Gallagher built 500L that was finished up by Bowen after John's unfortunate passing, may he Rest in Peace. All threads need pics right!!

I've had my 45 Colt BisHunter for years. It's one of the Lipseys first run guns. I've shot thousands of Ruger Only rounds through it, most 355gr at 1200fps and have never had a problem with the rings. Never lapped them. 2X Weaver is a great scope on this gun. the 4X Leupold has the same dimensions. I like both scopes but wish I'd never sold the 2X weaver. It's a shooter and a keeper. 355gr 1200 fps 100yds 2X Weaver Load development targets Lee 255gr rnpf plain base 1400+ fps 2X Weaver
