4 in Super Redhawk//525's/10.0 of unique at 950fps will go through both shoulders of a 1500# Bison Dang! That's impressive. Just what I need for moose! 10 gr Unique. Funny, somewhere, I think around here is a thread about how many different loads/calibers run 10gr Unique. Great plinker in my 454. 10gr Unique and 255 rnfp. Might have to try that load in my 500L

530-540gr 22gr LilGun at 1100 fps in my 5.5 gun. Cases fall out of the cylinder with nothing more than gravity. Easier to shoot then 455gr at 1325 fps. 23gr 1150fps. I stick with 22gr I managed this 2 cylinder group on the right one handed off hand one day. i Can’t do that with 455 gr 1325fps!

I should add that I've shot other rams with my Kimber 325wsm with 200gr Accubonds at 2950fps and they didn't hit the ground like this one. Well one did but it was a cns shot.
Also, I used this bullet/load after reading around here or over at handgun hunt a member, maybe tradbow? Has killed truckload of deer with the 240gr xtp mag and said it puts them down with authority. Which is what I was after hunt sheep. They can run off and fall in some pretty inhospitable places. Been there done that.

It started life as a 4" 45 Colt Redhawk. I put the 454 cylinder in it from a Super Redhawk 454. Pretty much a drop in fit. I ground/sanded the billboard and ".45 Colt" off the barrel, put the HiViz site on it and had it magna-ported. Went through a few grips and finally settled on the Uncle Mikes. Some guys like the pachmayrs. It's my "Oh $h1T" gun. I pack it in a Simply Rugged pancake strong side mostly but cross draw carrying a backpack. What a perfect “oh $Hîtake” gun. I imagine it is a blast to shoot! How does the Redhawk carry in the Simply Rugged (Sourdough?) Pancake holster with your backpack waistband on? I ask because I plan on carrying a Redhawk .44Mag at times whilst backpack hunting and that holster gets mentioned here a lot. Thank you! It's lively when I goes bang thats for sure! I have the retention strap on the Pancake mainly to hold the gun in it when it's not in use but the rig is ready to go on the belt with ammo pouch. When carrying strong side I undo the strap and tuck it away. The guns stays put nicely and pops out with a good yank. When carrying crossdraw I don't actually use the "cross draw" belt slot and I keep the strap snapped. Quick to draw by using my offhand to yank the strap. Anyway, this is what works for me for what I do. Guys that spend a lot time in chest waders usually want a chest rig off some sort. I don't have the Chesty Puller system since I don't really have a need for it.

The bug dope is nearly as potent as the revolver. That is such a cool Redhawk, Snyd. Who built it for you? Bowen? And then you got it Magnaported? Or am I way off? I just had Bowen convert my .44Mag Redhawk to his “Kodiak” version, but I now lust after a .45 or .454 conversion too…. Yours is dreamy. Any info appreciated. Which do you value more there - the 454 or the bug spray? Believe it or not probably the bug dope. When it comes to being Bear Aware the gun is the last resort. With the bugs it's the ONLY resort. You can't scare em off. I have a good friend that was a bush pilot here in Alaska for over 20 years. One agency he flew for he told the new pilots that if they ever went down that they'd find them, that wouldn't be an issue. He told them to always have a bottle of bug dope in their pocket because if it took them a day or two to get to them they'd be stone crazy and sucked dry if they didn't have it. True it is and true story.

Are you guys casting 355gr for your 500 Linebaughs? If so what mould? My own design. Accurate 51-355H. A 355gr swc with a wide meplat. Do they have that listed as a catalog item?

The roughest country I hunt(ed) in is sheep country here in AK. Walk-in backpack hunts for 7-12 days 10-20 miles off the road or from the airplane. I never carried a backup gun. Everywhere else I go whether it be camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, berry pickin I pack the 4" 454 Redhawk. and the bug dope!!

Hell yes, that’s the plan. Just gotta get my shooting technique and load sorted, but I’m going to give it all I got. Are you in BC, or AK? Or did you draw a tag elsewhere? Would love to hear your tale I live in Alaska. Can get a goat tag OTC every year. The first time I took a revolver was a bfr 454. Boat ride 30 miles, then mountain bikes about 8 or 9 miles up an old logging road. Then hiked in from there. Probably another 5 or 6 miles through the brush. We found goats. Weather didnt workout with the time we had. Next time was a March hunt on Kodiak. The goal was for my buddy to get one first since he'd never hunted them. Lots of snow that year. Weather worked pretty well until we got his goat out. Then it warmed up way too much and made the snow too soft. Wasn't freezing solid at night anymore, so we couldn't get around. Too steep for snow shoes. Got to about 275 yards from a small billy. Not close enough for me. Great thread you guys. Welcome wyomingnimrod! You probably have some neighbors on this forum! Ya, Rickie, I hope you get a shot at a goat this year! It took me three hunts to get a Ram with my FA 454. You can do it! A few years back I was with 4 other guys hunting Kodiak in Nov. One guy had a bear tag. They were all rifle hunters, I was packing the 45 Colt Bisley Hunter with 2X Weaver on it, 355gr wfns 1220fps. After getting our 15 deer and one bear another guy and I went after the goats. We got to 250ish yards and well, he was packing his 338. With the terrain I think it would have been possible for me to get within 100yds but he was pretty antsy to shoot one so he did. It sure was a blast hunting those little blacktails though!

The 2X Weaver is a great scope if you can find one. They quit making them. Weaver claims it can take 1000s of rounds of 454. I shot 1000's of rounds of heavy 45 colt under mine in my BisHunter, 355gr and 1200fps. Same size/dimensions as the 4X Leupold. I kick myself for selling mine.
