James, is that the grip of a second gun I see sticking out of a cross draw?

Rufus, you should be able to handle the recoil for one shot. Those big bullets don't need a lot of velocity, just give them around 1100 fps or so & join bula at the table but make some gravy!!

Save the freezer & can some of that meat, it's excellent. Tyrone, I want to hear a revolver story, leave the 7/30 Waters at home, one of these days that old barrel is going to fall off!

Never ever used a shooting glove in over 50 years of shooting until I had a gun I got from Mark Hampton with very smooth, well fitted stocks that were just too slick to hold on to. These were on a BFR 44 magnum, nice gun but I just couldn't shoot it...until I broke down & listened to David Bradshaw's advice about some leather gloves doctored up with some mineral spirits & bees wax that was worked into the leather. Once I did that I got a more consistent grip on the gun & it shot very well indeed. I think the gloves are horsehide, nice & thin & I cut the last little bit of leather off of the trigger finger so I could feel the trigger. I'm sure most don't do this but I had to for a better feel. Now I use them all the time but I wish they were just a bit tighter, I'm on the hunt for another pair. I've had a pair of the PAST shooting gloves for years but for me at least they are too much of a good thing, just too much padding.

That's a nice, heavy horned buck Ed, good thing you had all those trees to hide behind! Congratulations!

Here it is again: Sixshot Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler
Gently warm your #10 dutch oven on the stove top so you can melt 1 stick of real butter in the oven. Pre heat your kitchen oven to 400 degrees, this might vary a bit with a gas oven, here in the west almost all stoves are electric.
Mix 2 cups all purpose flour with 2 cups sugar & 1 1/2 cups milk & a tbl of baking powder. I stir it with a whisk.
Dice 2 quarts of peaches, pour the batter slowly over the butter & then gently spoon the fruit evenly over the batter & sprinkle your favorite amount of cinnamon over the fruit. Usually about 1 tbl spoon or so.
Put the lid on top & pop in the oven for 1 hour but for the last 20 minutes remove the lid so the cobbler will brown.
Again! Jump back, there's a stampede coming boys!! Ice cream is a good option. I've made hundreds of these over the years they are very addicting!

I think I posted this many years ago but some of you newer guys just might like dutch oven peach cobbler, ice cream is optional!! I posted the recipe twice in the last 2 days so you should have it already, easy peasy! Anyway, I made one up today as a teaser, it will be gone in a hurry. best to use a dutch oven without legs but not too important, the legs will stick down through the rack in your stove. Don't forget to remove the lid 20 minutes before it's done so it browns good. Again, melt the butter first, add the batter second, then gently spoon in the diced fruit & sprinkle with some cinnamon. Not sure if I made one of these for John & Dot when I was over there last, if not I'll do it in February. Enjoy!! Dick

Robb, I've had to paint mine for years, black on black & then against a dark hide in the shadows is a tough task for any of us when we get older. I'm almost 77 & that black front sight disappeared a long time ago. I paint that front sight white & then bright orange or some other bright color. The white underneath helps make it brighter, without it your sights can appear dark in the late part of the day.

This is an old photo, can you see my target to the left of the water against the berm? Anyway, I took some old pieces of rags & duct taped them down into the "U" shaped rest to form a "V" & then I throw that light weight piece of leather over it & push the frame of the gun up against it. This makes the gun much more steady & if you miss you should get six months of hard labor, helping me thin out the Rock Chucks!!

Here's my Bog Pod with the PSR rest, I carry a small bag in my jacket pocket & place it on the back of the rest, works great. I used this set up on the last day of my hunt in Africa when I shot my Gemsbok. It really comes in handy when walking the Lava reefs & shooting Rock Chucks from the standing position. Light & handy. Good luck to all. If you find a good canyon that you want to hunt don't go up the bottom up it, the wind is like a chimney. Go up a side canyon about 3/4 of the way & then cross into the one you want to hunt & very carefully glass or just sit & wait for them to start moving. Usually works better than going up the bottom & letting your scent go ahead of you as the air warms up.

You should have, doesn't take long to make one! The grandkids always want my cinnamon rolls or a home made cheese cake.....plus the cobbler!

Even though my 10" FA 41 magnum has a 2.5X8 Leupold on top I don't dial it up very often, at least not yet. When I shot that Gemsbok recently in Africa I had it dialed down to 2.5 power, just right. Headed to Montana tomorrow & it might need to get dialed up for those bouncy bounces!!
