I agree, be glad you can get them, at least you can shoot & no one knows when this is going to ease up. I guess when we start seeing factory ammo on the shelves we can hope to see primers start to trickle in.....

Great find James, this one might give you time to let the barrel cool down on the model 83 FA you're always showing. Congratulations!

Well stated John, and as your old buddy Terry Murbach would have said, "And So It Goes"

I get the paint at Walmart in the hobby/crafts section. You can buy the pens in different colors or the little plastic bottles, I use both. The number one thing you want to do is paint it white first, this will make your second color really stand out. If you don't use the white the top color will appear dark, almost black sometimes. The amount of front sight you color is trial & error & as David Bradshaw mentions is loaded related. I like to be zeroed about dead on at 50 yds with iron sights and on again about 100 yds with the BOTTOM of the paint holding at 6 o'clock, that way you can see your intended target/animal. I'm not zeroed yet but close but as you can see it doesn't take much paint. Again, this is trial & error but it's fun & you can do some amazing long range work just by changing the paint (make it longer) especially if you get 2 shots! A few years ago James From Jersey was visiting me & we were doing some river shooting in the canyon. He replied that he had never did any long range shooting until that day. But, he was an experienced shooter & within less than a cylinder full of ammo we were out to 300 yds & hitting rocks in the river & he was bouncing up & down like a ping pong ball he was so excited! We do it often out to 600 yds or more. Several of you reading this could do the same thing I'm sure.

Well done, looks like perfect shot placement & that HP couldn't have worked any better. I've been using cast HP's for 7-8 years now on deer & they are still surprising me how well they penetrate, even from odd angles at times. A friend recently took a cow elk with a cast HP & got complete penetration & she was down instantly using a bisley 45. Congratulations on some good eating venison!

Dressed the front sight down a few thousandths & added a little paint so these old eyes can see a bit better. Now I'll head back to the range tomorrow for a rematch & see how it shoots in better light. Yesterday it was getting too dark to put on paper. Plus that black front sight is a challenge for me. This sight Fermin built is already narrowed to 1/10", just the way I like them so if the weather cooperates just a bit tomorrow I should have it ready for a show down with the elk hopefully. I'm hoping to get zeroed for 50 yds or so & the bottom of the paint should zero me out to at least 100 yds using a 6 o'clock hold...hoping! Dick

Trapr, it looks like a LFN, it's from a custom mold I got from Todd Corder, long shank, nice flat nose & it takes the Hornady gas check, which is a different size (more expensive) than the others. Dick

Recently Lipseys & Bobby Tyler teamed up to put together a dream gun for lovers of the 45 bisley. Can't say I was a charter member like my good buddy Rey Garza but I can say I've always been a 45 fan. After my recent trip to Africa I've taken a renewed interest in the old 45 Colt caliber & when Lipseys & Bobby got together to offer this once in a life time 5.5" bisley 45 with only 25 guns being made I'll tell you I got the staggers wanting one. Today Santa came early & I ripped out to the range, pulled the rope on a plate rack at 25 yds & missed at exactly 9 o'clock but 3 clicks of windage corrected that little error & the next 4 said "good night". Amazing trigger, 2Dogs front sight that I hadn't even painted I was so excited to shoot it & the beautifully fitted sheep horn stocks felt great, I mean great! After the initial 5 rounds of 7.0 grs of American Select & the 255 gr cast I plunked in 5 more Panatela's, this time loaded with 18.5 grs of 2400 & the 260 gr Keith, a load I've shot for many, many years & taken a lot of game with. The first two shot low, hitting the splash plate. I held at 12 o'clock & ran the next 3 plates, easy, peasy! Normally you would just crank up 2-3 clicks on the rear sight but no, with this excellent 2Dogs front sight you just go home, measure your sight & slowly dress down the front sight a wee bit at a time, these sights have plenty of room to get it just right. The rear sight had already been clicked up several clicks, I didn't want to touch it at all. I still have an elk tag in my pocket & they are still a couple thousand feet above me & coming off the mountain right at dark so the chess match is still on going. I need about one more good snow storm plus the rules have changed. Instead of using the FA 41 magnum with the scope I'm now hoping to use the Lipseys/Tyler custom 45 with iron sights to close the deal. Maybe this new gun will bring me luck. Dick

Find the Lyman mold #257420 or one similar. When my kids were growing up many years ago I had a model 43 Winchester 25/20 & that's the bullet I cast for it, it's a gas check at about 65 grs depending on alloy & it was a holy terror on ground squirrels, rock chucks, badgers, one unlucky muskrat & a whole lot of other vermin. My 3 youngest boys got a lot of action out of that old gun, one of them even got 2 deer with that bullet. Don't want to hi jack but anyone that has a model 43 Win. probably has a head space problem if they've shot it much, I can tell you how to correct it quite easily if you want to know.

Hey Joe, good to see you back on the forum, I've wondered what happened to you! Don't happen to have a TC frame you can spare, I don't have one. I have a scope, actually 2 of them & a barrel, Bullberry 7 TCU 14", but I want a smaller caliber barrel for chucks so if I get a frame I'll try & find a barrel but I need a frame first. Good to see you back! Did you see my African hunt?

It's always best to hold out & get the one you want in the first place, then you know you'll be happy. But, you've got some options here so it's going to be a fun chase. The OM 357's as John Taffin mentioned are on the smaller frame, same as the new model flat tops, easier to pack, fun to shoot & every Ruger guy should have one because they are way under rated. The 41 has been a personal favorite for many years & they have suddenly became really popular & the prices have jumped, no better than a 44 but many of us looney's will counter that by saying less recoil, a bit flatter trajectory, and with 250 gr bullets not a tick of difference in the game fields. OM parts are out there, you just have to look. You have to get the right parts for the 357, OM parts for the 41,44 or 45 won't work in the 357. The 45 is the real prize, especially with the dual cylinder. There were fewer made Ruger OM 45's than there were 44 flat tops, so it's a very hard gun to find, with or without the second cylinder (which you won't use much) If the throats are true (452"- 4525") you will have a gun that is very versatile & capable of handling anything you will ever encounter anywhere. All you need to do is pick up a couple of copies of John Taffin's excellent books on 44's & 45's and I think you will have made your mind up by the time you finish reading! Also read anything by David Bradshaw or Ross Seyfried. Enjoy the chase!

Yup, that's pretty close to the ideal gun, it can work hard but also dress up nice for a BBQ gun.
