Today myself & Callshot were running some test loads through our new S&W Ultimate Carry 32 magnums & just as we were finishing up I saw a large (actually very tiny) mouse run out from under one of the storage containers & make a break for one of the other ones. Just as it got to the other one it stopped, I grabbed the 32 snubbie out of my back pocket & sent a 98 gr full wadcutter its way, double action, because that's all you've got. Bingo, dead mouse, I was pretty proud of my shot since the mouse was about the size of a Walnut. Dick

Pretty sure I could get by with my Ruger flat top bisley in 44 special or my custom Bobby Tyler OM 5" Ruger 45 auto rim. Both would be stoked with heavy cast bullets, and I wouldn't worry about man or beast but they would have to worry about me & my setup.

Ridge is a veteran since he's about 24 years old & this is #3 or #4 for him I think. We've been taking him since he was 7-8 years old & I'm sure he's seen a couple of hundred bears before. But in Idaho you have to be 12 before you're old enough to take Hunters Ed.

Got another call late last night & my grandson Ridge punched his tag on a nice blonde phase bear. This is #55 that we've taken from the same area over the years, all spot & stalk. Dick

Greg, the boys have been earning these bears so far, wind, rain, snow, rattlesnakes & one mean, nasty Forest Grouse hen with a bad attitude!!!

I put 100,000 rounds of cast through one of my 610 revolvers in 2 years, that's the only time I really kept close track. When I traded it to Rob Leahy at Simply Rugged I'm sure it was north of 300,000 & I was still winning matches with it. It did have some forcing cone wear but was still a good revolver that had shot nothing but cast & most of them were fast, double action at major power factor. I don't think the average shooter, plinker would ever wear out a good sixgun shooting cast unless he really tried to abuse the gun.

Got a call late last night that one of my older grandson's got his first bear, it's a dandy chocolate phase & he was really happy. He was the oldest one that hadn't taken a bear although he has been in on a lot of them. He just sent me photo's this morning, said he didn't sleep all night! They have seen 3 bears so far but some of them you just can't get to because of heavy timber, cliffs, etc. Earlier yesterday they sent me one of the funniest video's I've ever seen. They were riding the 4 wheelers up a little trail & a Grouse flew out of the brush & attacked them, true story! They jumped off & it kept after them, one of them started videoing the whole show. It was a female & she must have had a nest somewhere close because she was on the fight. I don't know how to get it one here but if someone does, let me know & I'll send it. Dick

I still have a few boxes of old CCI primers from when I worked in a store in Texas that are marked $.37 per hundred, this was in the late 60's. But I have almost a full brick of Winchesters that are older than that, they are in wooden trays, the whole box is wood. Not sure if they are pistol or rifle.

Take both, the distance can vary a lot, I've shot them at 40 yds & 300 yds.

My son in the photo with his son has 3 boys & 4 girls, all of the boys have taken bears now & he thinks this girl will be the first daughter to take one, she's game for about anything so far. One of my other son's was also there with one of his boys & they were on a bigger bear but couldn't close the deal before dark & had to head back home, maybe next weekend. Eight bears in 2 days is a pretty good hunt.

My 14 year old grandson Branson got his first bear today & he was pretty happy after missing one last year. His dad was spotting for him as he laid across his backpack on a side hill & the bear was moving away from them. It had spotted them & when Branson was ready his dad made a fawn bleat & the bear stopped & he made a perfect shot, with the bear going about 10 yds & down. The shot was 235 yds. They saw 7 bears in 2 days, even though it was bad weather both weekends, lots of rain & wind. This is bear #53, all spot & stalk for our family. It was dark before they got it skinned & headed back to camp & they had to take care of one rattlesnake on the way back. There are lots of snakes in this area. Branson's older sister was along for this trip, she loves to tag along & is probably the best fisherman (woman) in the family. Dick

Two very good loads that are somewhat standard & were used a great deal by Silhouette shooters was 18.5 grs of 2400 or 20.0 grs of 4227. Not maximum loads but definitely beyond the loads you mention above. The 2400 load uses a standard LP primer, you might try standard & magnum with the 4227, usually the magnum works best. This was with the 250-260 gr bullets mentioned.
