Well off to Colorado in the morning to hunt with my son and try to take a mule deer. Pretty far drive for this ole East Texan. Carrying my 629 stealth Hunter and hope to get into handgun range of one. I will also have a rifle just in case. The land owner has sent my son some pictures of some nice bucks . This is my son's last year in Colorado so he is gonna be the guide slash carry dad's stuff.

It is nice when they get to that age! I helped Remington get his buck and his first turkey so now he will beat the brush and do the rattling for me this next few days.

Good luck to all. If you find a good canyon that you want to hunt don't go up the bottom up it, the wind is like a chimney. Go up a side canyon about 3/4 of the way & then cross into the one you want to hunt & very carefully glass or just sit & wait for them to start moving. Usually works better than going up the bottom & letting your scent go ahead of you as the air warms up.

First of all they ain't no air up here. We glasses yesterday morning and spotted a buck in a creek bottom and he gave us the slip. Put a stalk on another deer that turned out to be a doe. We sat in that area classing for a few hours till the wind kicked up and we headed to the truck for lunch. Halfway to the truck we bumped into 2 bucks and they hauled butt. Son had my rife on his pack cause dad was a wheezing. The bigger of the two stopped at around 175 yards and yep I cut hair across his back. 2nd shot nailed him running. Really wanted to handgun hunt one but I see I need to get into shape. I carried my 44 and my psr rest. But this was a short notice hunt. I will try to figure out how to post a picture when I get back home. And this sho is some beautiful country up. The good lord I think took a few extra hours making Colorado. Ended up shooting the 4x4 with 6.5 creedmoor Ruger American. Big thanks to my son for this hunt.
