Just finished putting one on the .454. Gave me a chance to use my new Porter-Cable 20V Lithium 1/2" drill, of course I used a #52 drill bit, which handled the task well. Now to wait for Bowen to ship the rear sight. Maybe by then I'll even some .454 loaded instead of using my Ruger Only .45 Colt ammo.

I like the birdshead grip. Have three all 4 5/8's length. Original Vaqueros in .45 Colt, 357 mag and a Single six .32 H&R. Guess I should say wife has the 357 and 32. LOL Dana

The throats on mine are a uniform .454 using pin gauges. B/C gap is .008.

Since you fine enablers caused us to have to buy one thought I'd share. Arrived Thursday. Fit and finish are very good. The cylinder throats are an even.454 on all chambers. The B/C gap is more than I would prefer at .008. I put Houge black micarta grips on our other Bisleys but the spare set I have won't fit this grip frame without rework so we'll just use the factory grips for now. Thought I might get a chance to try her out today while the wife goes to work but since it's windy I'll hold off for a while. Still have to set up our new Caldwell Stable Table across the road at our shooting site. Anyway we are quite pleased to add her to the stable of Rugers. Still have to order dies and brass and find some primers around here. Have lots of .45 Colt ammo loaded up and ready to go. Have lots of powder and cast bullets on hand. This is the first new Ruger we've bought that didn't have a fired case in the box. Apparently they use jacketed bullets for test firing, had to use some Sweet's and a Chore Boy wrapped brush to get the barrel cleaned Here is a picture of her with the Acusport .45 Bisley and Vaquero .45 Bisley. Gentlemen I don't post often but view every day, and I have a question.
All you enablers convinced me we needed the new Super Blackhawk .454 (didn't take much convincing). I have a wide selection of Ruger single action .45 Colts all on the large frame. No stranger to Ruger Only loads. I primarily use H-110 and HS-6 for these loads. I only load cast bullets sized to .452 and have a wide selection of them from 260gr to 335gr. There are no grizzlies within 70 miles of me so I would like some ideas on reduced .454 loads using HS-6. I have data on the H-110 loads but my manuals, Hodgdons, Hornady Lee and Lyman don't have much or anything on HS-6. In .45Colt I use 13gr of HS-6 under everything up to 300gr with good results. What little data I have found for the .454 leads me to think 14 to 16 grains would be a starting point. If you don't mind sharing your experience I would be thankful.

Using published data. AA9 max load of 16.9 gives a velocity of 1445 (35,200PSI) from a 10" barrel. W296/H110 max load of 22.0 gives a velocity of 1631 (36,400PSI) from a 10.125" barrel. Your powder choice may be wrong the velocity you are seeking. JMHO I shoot heavy for caliber lead at 1100-1200. Good luck on your quest if you seek it. Dana
