it finally came, my 500 linebaugh!!! it is a(tc encore) 23" MGM heavy factory barrel that is matte finished. it also has skinner sights, both front and back. the brass is starline and the boolits are a 450gr(460gr weighed them) lfn gc that montana bullets makes. i have unique and 2400 but next month i should get hs-6. the 500L is a hunting cartridge(whitetail/black bear in my neck of the woods), so i will take anything under 3" at 100 yards(3 shots, it may be 5 shots). it will go no higher than 3" at 50 yards and dead on at 100 yards. i'm just guessing, but it shouldn't be more than 8 - 10" low at 125 yards, but i'll see.my 500L will be a close-in rifle, so 50 yards should be about max distance, but just in case, i'll do a deer/bear out to 100-125 yards. unique and hs-6 will be all i need to go 1100-1300fps. the yorkie queen buttons, thinks that 500L should be bigger

a few weeks ago my friend sold his 44 mag(ruger srh) and he gave me his 44 mag brass and 700ish pistol primers. then a couple of days ago, i reach into the shelf, get the primers and discovered that they are large magnum pistol primers, not the large pistol primers i have. i own a ruger sbh in 44 mag, but since i am disabled, i like to use unique and titegroup under a 250-280gr cast boolit. i no longer use large magnum primers cuz i gave up on using win296. instead i like the large pistol primers and the decreased velocity.
my question is, can i still use the large magnum pistol primers(cci 350) on unique and titegroup?
thanks!!!

IME, it's a lot to do with the style of the rifle and stock. I had a Ruger 77 in '06 that hammered the Haiti out of me. Now I have a Remington 700 BDL and it's a pussycat with the same loads; a dream to shoot, even off the bench. i use my encore 444 marlin with a 23" MGM heavy factory barrel, leopuld 3-9x and a laminate high plains gunstock with a limbsaver pad. it takes a 280gr wfn gc and a load of h4198. when i first had it, it had a tc flex tech stock. it was horrible. my guess, it was too lite. when i got my first high plains gunstock, recoil was there, unlike the flex tech. www.highplainsgunstocks.com/stock-styles.htmlmine is a factory style stock.

I had the H&R in 500S&W. It was a beast and went down the road of course I'm old and have enough pains the 500s&w and the 50 ak is basically too much gun for me!!! the recoil shouldn't be bad in my encore. i've done a recoil calculator and it will do what an 30-06 and 180gr factory bullets will do.

Should be great boolit shooter on my big thumpers I out on a set of laminated stocks to give the Encore some additional weight to absorb that recoil. luckily i've bought a high plains gunstock laminate with a limbsaver recoil pad. and i have a PAST recoil pad.

welp, i bit the boolit. i've tried and tried to stay away from it. but it got me. in 5 or 6 weeks, i'll have a new tc encore 23" MGM heavy factory barrel in 500 linebaugh. the barrel will be equipped with skinner sight, front and back. i then bought hornady's 500L four dies set and a .510" lyman case trimmer. i am going to try some 450gr lfn gc that montana bullets "just happens" to have . next month, i have to get is some 500L cases(thru starline, they "just happen" to have them) and some hs-6 and then i'll be good to go. i am going to try hs-6 first, although i won't know the velocity till the barrel comes. i would like it to go 1200 - 1300fps. if it doesn't go 1200-1300fps, i'll try 2400. i have a can of tite group(also have unique) so i'll try it, even tho the velocity shouldn't be 1100fps, more like 1000fps. anyway, if i can do 3"group(3 shots, i'm going to try 5 shots) at 100 yards, then i'll be happy. i'm going to try to zero it in at 100 yards. it should be 3" high at 50 yards. well, i'll find out when the barrel comes. i just wish that it could be a six shooter(well 5 shooter), i'll just pretend that it is!!! now you have my permission to antagonize me. shouldn't there be some group that DOES NOT do a disabled guy's dreams? i mean, i....er... he's only got one hand!!! and then i....er...he puts the encore on my...er...his primos trigger bipod and then i....er...he wraps them up with a gummy strap. you ought to see him, big bore on a bipod gummy strap when i...er...he hunts.

Some days it seems like the accuracy drops off as soon as the bullet parts company with the barrel. sigh. i have quite a few of those days....

these might also help... www.targetshooting.ca/docs/grp-analysis.pdfis-lan.com/challenge/images/Pistol-Correction.pdfwww.gunlink.info/targets/PistolChartL1S.pdf the first time(with one hand) at 15 yards, i was anticipating recoil. i corrected myself and then i had too little trigger finger. i corrected myself and i squeezed my thumb too much. i corrected myself(i sure do correct myself!!!) and finally i grouped itself right in the middle of my target. i did that for about a week and then i went to 20 yards, about a week after that i went to 25 yards. then archery started up and i did 25 yards only on sunday. i took it out during rifle season, but i never had a shot that was less than 25 yards.

You're not alone. I received lots of good advice when I posed a similar quandary several weeks ago. I backed off to a good ole .22 single six. One great tip I got was start close and work my way out. I'm still working on 12 yards. Sometimes I go back to 3 yards. Even with a .22 I get tired after about 15-20 minutes and give it a rest. I have a long way to go to use my ammo (factory or my own) or my guns as an excuse for poor accuracy with a handgun. You might find some good help in this thread: singleactions.proboards.com/thread/19006/harsh-realityi think it will!!!
