I would personally recommend considering Mr. Bradshaw's comment. The Gentleman has an encyclopedia's worth of experience in such matters. Happy Thanksgiving.

If it comes with pictured Leupold 2x20mm and Leupold Dual Dovetail mount/rings, might as well bag it out to 100 yards, get a feel for what you have. Take your time fetching in the irons. Freedom Arms offers four basic setups, Premier, Filed Grade, an express arrangement or fiberoptic for either, and the Iron Sight Gun works silhouette. Adjustments on the ISGW are by far the most precise, with a more precise sight picture, but it is bulkier. FA can guide you to matching front sight height to caliber and barrel length. You may be reluctant to part with it once you’ve shot the Leupold/Leupold arrangement. Makes for less fatigue in testing loads. Shoot it offhand as well. 2x is a practical offhand magnification. David Bradshaw I guess it will depend on how it feels and balances, but most of my shots are under 50yds, in heavy woods, so the scope just seems bulky to me.

I would think a bear would have a heart attack just seeing that revolver pointed at it! That is the most functional trail gun I have ever seen!

Well guys, I solved this problem! I picked up a 4.2" Ruger Redhawk in .45 Colt. It is the round frame (Model 5032). I hope to get out tomorrow and shoot 50 to 100 rounds, if it isn't pouring rain. It had the fired case and envelope in the box dated 2007, but it sure doesn't look like it has been shot very much! This is going to be fun! My first DA .45 Colt, I have a couple of Blackhwaks.

The new hammer is not aesthetically pleasing to the eye that old one was cool. Which old one? There have been a number of iterations. Anyone notice anything unusual about the photo I posted? Is that a Keith style base pin latch from MR, or did Mr. Huntington fix you up? I like the "JRH" om the grips.

I've been dreaming of a perfect trail gun for protection in the Lower 48. I wonder if Lipsey's or Ruger has any plans to introduce the GP platform in a 5 shot .45 Colt? They could use the 4.2" barrel and attract a LOT of business, I am not a fan of the 3" barrel configuration in the GP44. Wondering how you men feel, would you buy one?

I love the photo of your "peerless ammunition". Where did you find the boxes, and how did you print them. They are terrific!

I now have progressive lenses. There is a very small amount of movement to see at any distance. I have found, after practicing target acquisition with them, in a very short period of time, the movement becomes subconscious, thus effortless and natural. I practiced with and empty cylinder at first. I did not concentrate on my vision, per se, only my sight picture. It becomes very natural quickly. Good luck.

74 her but will never give up shooting Is 74 considered old, I am 66, and I still try to think I am 21, until I look in the mirror! Heck, when my .45 Colt becomes a burden I will go to .22LR gladly! Good luck, God Bless, and don't let age get you down, as has been said, old age is not for sissies.
