I've been dreaming of a perfect trail gun for protection in the Lower 48. I wonder if Lipsey's or Ruger has any plans to introduce the GP platform in a 5 shot .45 Colt? They could use the 4.2" barrel and attract a LOT of business, I am not a fan of the 3" barrel configuration in the GP44. Wondering how you men feel, would you buy one?

You could always find a old Smith & Wesson Mod.25. I have a .45Colt Mountain Gun. Just using conservative loads in it. Actully it is a Mod.25-13. It is a option....

Could be wrong but I don't think a .45 Colt will fit in that platform.

I have always hoped Ruger would extend the shrouded barrel on the Alaskan to gain a little more sight radius and a cleaner look... Then I could add a Bowen sight and red ramp front later. I think it would give my 625 Classic a solid run for it's money in my winter carry choices. I'd also feel more comfortable about the use of warmer loads in the Ruger over the Smith.

OP: Yes, the GP 100 is too small for a 5 shot 45 Colt. I'd love to have a 4"-5" SRH in 480 Ruger. Planning to have my 7.5" model cut back to 4.80"

Wonder what you'd get if you put a .45 barrel and cylinder into a 329PD ? No 45's of any kind here. I filled this niche for myself with a M69 L-framed 44mag..

The Redhawk 4.w in 45 Colt is pretty good . the rubber grips are a bit too big for my hand. But it's still pretty good .

SINCE IT IS ALREADY AVAILABLE IN .44 SPECIAL AND SINCE YOU ONLY HAVE SO MUCH STEEL TO WORK WITH IN THAT CYLINDER, THE .44 SPECIAL CAN BE LOADED AS HEAVY AS THE GP WILL STAND. I CAN'T SEE GAINING ANYTHING BY GOING TO .45 COLT. ALSO THE .44 GP100 IS AVAILABLE IN A 5" SHOT HB AND SOON IN A 5" STANDARD BARREL. IT COULD BE CUT TO A SHORTER LENGTH.

I'm right there with ya, friend. Hoping to take possession of a 4.5" GP-45 soon. Edit: Although, mine is going to be a 6 shot .45 Colt. Don't see any advantage to losing that sixth round.

Cool! Let me guess, 44 SRH Alaskan rebored to tight 45 Colt, chopped nose, Redhawk barrel? Did you commission it or find one for sale? Yep. Mr. Bowen says we're a little past half done. And I agree with the OP; no reason Ruger couldn't be making same, and I reckon it would be hugely popular. Hell, it wouldn't even require any retooling to speak of. Tho, same is true of the inexplicably nonexistent 4.5" .45 Colt New Model Blackhawk Bisley, which they seem hell bent not to produce... Cylinder notches between the cylinder holes instead of over or beside them............... Nope. Factory Ruger .44 Magnum cylinder bored to .45 Colt.
