When a buddy of mine kills moose in Alaska he and his friends gut it out then move the body at least 60 from the gut pile if possible. On a few occasions he has walked back to the gut pile after getting the meat cut up and packed only to find it gone.

That is nice. Too bad they are closing up shop.

One thing about sending guns into Ruger and probably others is if you have an action job on it (Lighter trigger)they will turn it back to their specs.

I bought my kids a Kimber in .257 Roberts. The only problem with it is LOP. It is light enough for them to carry, but doesn't kick hard. The 6.5s kicked them too hard. The .257 works well and my son shot his second deer yesterday with it. My soon to be 10 year old daughter who is smaller than your daughter will be using it next year.

The rig in your second picture is exactly what I have been looking for. My Dad had one very similar he bought in the 50s and I always wanted to find one like it. Would you mind giving the description of the rig. I think it is Barranti's Ranger Holster, but not sure.

Over on Gunblast.com Jeff just reviewed a new companies Hi Power that runs just shy of $4000. Looks like a nice pistol without the mag disconnect and fire pin safety. I wonder if they will take my older one in trade.

I have 2 OM and 2 NM at this time. All but the one OM have had action work done. Even with action work on the NM I prefer the OMs

This may not be the reason for Quebec or Alaska declines, but the locals could shoot 5 caribou a day all year long when I was in Alaska in 2011. I doubt many are doing that, but the possibility exited. Could a disease have gotten in the herds?

My Forkin Gun was an OM Ruger .357 converted to 44 Special. IIRC it took about 2.5 years. I got lucky as there were others ahead of me, but he does them in patches so mine went in with theirs. The stocks were made by Mitch Sass. I got lucky with that too since the big name guy I was going to go with was unavailable at the time. Ben delivered it personally and showed basically the same gun for another client with the big name stock makers stocks on it. Mitch's were much better and he has done several more for me.
I pretty much only take Bens gun out these days and leave the others in the safe. It is just so much better than the others in feel and fit. The others are factory except for action jobs by Ben and others. I will say this though, the action jobs done by Bob Munden (Still missed) are buttery smooth where the action jobs by Forkin are a bit crisper feeling to me.

I had Bob Munden do an action job and recut the chambers on a Ruger Bisley a year or so before he died. He had slipped while cutting one of the chambers distorting it. He sent it back to Ruger to get a new cylinder asking them not to "fix" the action work he had done. Well, that didn't happen and he had to do it all over again.

Lot's of good ideas here, but I'll have to second the 44 spcl in a GP 100. S&W did it with the M69 in 44 Mag I would think Ruger could make a GP 100 in a 5 shot 44 Spcl.
