Has anyone ever sent their Blackhawk to Ruger and had them fit an extra cylinder? Just wondering about how much it would cost, can not get an estimate unless it gets sent in. Was possibly wanting an extra cylinder in 9mm,and one in 357 to send to Gary Reeder for his 356 Gnr. Can find them on gunbroker fairly reasonable, assume they would just need to be timed to my gun?
Thanks !

Ruger will only fit an extra cylinder if that was an option on that gun originally. I'd find one on GB that is as long or longer than you need and have Gary fit them to the gun when he does the work.

Ruger cylinders are somewhat of an enigma. The gun's frame opening is constant for all centerfire Blackhawks/Super Blackhawks. But the cylinders lengths are such that you cannot fit the wrong caliber cylinder into the wrong frame. For instance, you cannot put a .45 Colt cylinder into a .44 Magnum revolver. While the overall length, ratchet to bushing, is the same, more or less, the rear face to front face of the cylinder is varied. The gap is taken up by barrel stub "stick through." In general though, I've found cylinders pretty much are a drop-in fit from gun to gun, as long as the caliber stays the same. My factory supplied .45 ACP cylinder works very well with two Blackhawks and a Vaquero. Won't fit one .45 Colt gun, though. Bob Wright

I bought an OM .45 cylinder from a forum member a while back and it's overall length was quite a bit shorter than the frame window of the OM 44 flattop that it was going to go into. So much so that I TIG welded the end of the cylinder and machined it back in my lathe to the correct length to fit with minimal end shake.

I have been wanting to just send the gun in for a full package deal...but is very hard settling on one, they are all works of art! Lol And of course saving up some $$$$!

Bought an OM BH 4 5/8 barrel in .45 ACP. wanted a .45 Colt cylinder, Trper sold me one and it was just a hair long. A little file work and now I have a convertable.

One thing about sending guns into Ruger and probably others is if you have an action job on it (Lighter trigger)they will turn it back to their specs.
