Hey All,
My daughter is 9 and 85 pounds. Handles recoil well for her age. Here are my thoughts and I would like ideas on anything I may be missing.
1. Short Action 2. Minimum 25 caliber up to 30 caliber 3. 18” to 22” barrel 4. Price Range $500 to $1500. 5. Would consider a custom rifle by John Gallagher 6. Will reload the cartridge
Ideas please!!!
Thanks Jamie

250 Sav Any SA 6.5 based on 308 CZ 6.5 Grendel 6.5x55 300 Sav. 308 Win. 7-08
A lot depends on distance and game size also, proper fit will allow a larger caliber to be used thus enabling more flexibility for game size and cartridge performance

All I have to offer is, what I did for my son at that age. First off I wanted to build him a rifle in 250 Savage, at the time, unfortunately, funds for that disappeared. So while I was out traveling for work, I stopped by a LGS and found a used, Remington Model 7 in 260 Remington, like new, as these usually are, for $100 cheaper than a new one on the rack, $old! I to, reload and built a nice practice, light load utilizing the 85gr Sierra bullet, and as he progressed and was finally old enough to obtain a Wisconsin hunting license, hunting loads with the 125gr Nosler partition, and, 129gr Hornady. Understand to, this was way before the current 6.5 craze and after working with this rifle/caliber extensively, I have no real use for the over advertised, hyped, Creedmoor. The Model 7 also then, has the capability of the Father, buying a new "adult" stock for the rifle. In this case, it was a model 7 CDL stock I was able to purchase on a close out deal. He is now approaching 22 years of age and while he has graduated to a Remington M700 CDL in 30-06, the model 7 still gets a workout, sometimes even by Dad! Crash87

Thanks Jamie Kimber Adirondack in 6.5 Creedmoor. You can easily load 100 or 110 gr bullets to under 2900 fps. Which makes it less recoil than a 243. As she grows. You can up the bullet weight and or velocity . Truely a lifetime rifle !!

i gave my youngest son a rem m7(older one with 18.5" barrel) in 7-08. i "customized" the trigger(timney) and i loaded up some 139gr hornady fn discontinued(can't remember imr 4350 or 4320_) that goes 2600fps. he was at the time, 5' and 100lbs and it never "kicked". i have the same gun and caliber and load, it never "kicked" me. as a matter of fact, i can see the bullet impact on deer.
or you can go the cz527 in 7.62x39. i am going to get this one in the fall. it will be my deer hunting rifle when i get older.

Maybe a Condender Carbine with youth stock and chambered in 25-35. Since you're reloading, bullet selection expands beyond those required for a lever gun. Would be a sweet little combo! Could have a 22lr barrel to switch to for practice.

Sorry guys! I left out a key bit of information! The rifle will be used for deer hunting and opportunity hogs.

The 6.5mm’s, 7-08, and 308 are all lifelong hunting calibers that will do the job quite adequately. Another thing to think about would be availability of factory ammo in case it’s lost or forgotten on a trip. That criteria kinda squashes the 260, 6.5x55, and 7-08,.........The 6.5CM seems available in a lot of small country stores lately it just depends on whether it’s a trend or simply that common. The 308 is universally common, even overseas.

When my oldest boy was 11, he took a liking to my Ruger #1 RSI in 7x57. At that point we started loading Trailboss for a nice soft starter, he got to where he could put the hammer on anything inside 75-100 yds with the open sights. He’s 12 this fall and hunting with it, but I keep his exposure to full loads to a minimum, if he wants to do some plinking, we pull out the Trailboss again.

I don't think the Creedmoor is going away. It started out right unlike the 260. All it's game performance attributes are identical to the 260. Being So easy to shoot, low recoil and low noise makes it easy to shoot very well. And it penetrates real well. Depending on bullet selection of course. It dumps caribou every bit as fast as any cartridge I've ever seen a bou shot with. Up to and including the 375s.

I wasn’t trying to say it 6.5cm was a flash in the pan, or the latest trendy round. I just amazed me that as new a round as it is, it got quite a following and I find it In little country stores, hardware stores, etc. All the gun makers and ammo makers seem to have embraced it, it even seems to have magical mystical powers that some folks swear have never been available before, even though the Swede is from the 19th century.

A lever action in 357 would make a good rifle for her.
