Wondering what everyone carries when headed into the woods/swamp/mountains/etc.? I know some folks like to carry their CCW, when I head to the desert or the mountains I rarely carry anything but a revolver, usually my 454 in a Simply Rugged Chesty Puller rig.

Generally when trail riding our mules, I carry an Uberti El Patron SAA clone in .45 Colt. In the local woods and on our ranch, I carry a Charter Arms 3 inch .22 magnum revolver.

Basically anything that I have on me at the time but I prefer my Old Model flattop 357 magnum in my Rick Bachman crossdraw holster. It works well when I'm on my tractor or my mowers as well.

Don't have much opportunity for those types of activities here in Florida. The majority of my concealed carry is a Ruger SP-101. When I get feeling frisky, it's a Ruger Blackhawk in either .357 or .45 Colt.

I appreciate the replies, always interested in what my fellow shooters are sporting. How is the hog hunting in Florida? I have a son and his family near St. Augustine these days.

Just for general walking around Id say either 45 Bisley Vaquero (chest rig) or a 45 Sheriff Vaquero on the hip. If the handgun is a sidearm to a rifle I carry some DA revolver....357-480 cal

I have a couple Blackhawks with 4 5/8" barrels for woods carry, 357, and 41 magnums, but sometimes a 22 will do, just depends on how deep I'm going in. For hunting, usually a super blackhawk hunter in 41 magnum.

General walking around probably gets my FA97/41mag, 4.2” barrel.

I guess I’m gonna be different. I carry a Smith Shield Plus in 9mm every day so that’s what I carry no matter what. If I’m riding around my place or the lease in my side by side I sometimes carry an AR in 7.62x39 in the gun rack just in case I run across a hog.

I don't hog hunt...more from lack of opportunity and time, rather than lack of desire. As far as I can tell from conversations with friends that do...hog hunting is alive and well.

We don't have any hogs here. The bears ate them.

Daily carry since 1980: Colt Commander in .38 Super
Fishing/canoeing/backpacking: S&W 60-10 3" .357 Magnum or Taurus Titanium Tracker 4" .41 Magnum with .41 Specials
Woods walking/ATV/horse/off-road motorcycle: S&W 57/657 4" .41 Magnum, Freedom Arms 97 4.25/.41 Magnum or a 1911 in 10mm
Car camping where 2-Legged vermin may be a bigger problem than 4-Legged, have been known to stash a Glock around as they have excellent night sights and the capability to mount a light/laser. 19/23/35/40...just depends on how BIG the problem may be...

Generally speaking, I'm packing a Sig 365 most of the time. If not, it's probably a Glock 19 in a shoulder holster or a Sp101 in .327 in a hip holster. If we had bears, Mt lions, or hogs around here, it'd probably be a 69.

Fishing I carry either a .40 Commander or my Ruger 3 1/2" Birdshead. If needed a gator shot will be close and the .40 or .45 will make a decent enough sized hole in the head to not worry so much about shot placement... hopefully :-)
DaveB. This fall will be my first hog hunt in a while and I'm reading that they're now pretty thick in the WMA's. I'll likely take my 5 1/2" Blackhawk .45 Colt because shots are closer in the thick stuff than out in the open. Then again if I find shots are a bit longer on day one, maybe I'll switch to the BH Hunter .44.
I like three lakes WMA a bit north of Yeehaw Junction.
