I’m in the high plains of Colorado. When walking the prairie I’ve got a Ruger Bearcat Shopkeeper that Tyler Gun Works converted to .22 magnum. My other favorite is an old S&W model 51 kit gun also chambered in .22 magnum. When paired with a Buck 110, I feel ready for anything that jumps out from the sage brush.

My favorite "walk-about" is a 4" 29-2 nickel 44 mag with Mag-na-porting. 200 grainers at 1,000' are pure pleasure!

I carry my Blackhawk 44 special both in the woods and town. I'm a big fella, so I can conceal a gun that size without an issue. I carry in a Simply Rugged sourdough pancake holster. I made the decision to carry a single action daily a couple years back. I was carrying a 1911, but rarely shot it. I would take my blackhawk and single six out to shoot, and neglect the 1911. The same happened when I carried a glock before that. So, I figured I'd just carry the gun that I shoot all the time and prefer. The fact that the sourdough holster is the most comfortable holster and gun combo I've ever tried didn't make it a hard choice either.
Before that, a ritchie hide-a-way for the 1911 was my most comfortable rig.

Normally in the woods it's either a model 66 or Blackhawk 357. If I'm in bear country I like a 44 special flattop or 629.

My daily carry on the farm is a 5&1/2" Old Model Single Six .22 Magnum in a cross draw holster that a friend made for me. During deer season I swap it out for 5&1/2" Bisley in .41 Magnum that David Clements customized. I carry it in a Diamond D chest holster. If I an going to town it's a S&W Shield in 9mm.

For CCW it's a S&W 327PC 2" that replaced a 627PC bloodwork that wanted to pants me on stairs.

single six with the 22 mag cylinder. Ya I know I'm under gunned for bears, meth labs, ninja death squads, and the like, but we have been fishing hunting and general woods loafing for 45+ years. The only time she came close to letting me down was when she got frozen into the holster during an ice storm. Note to self. Don't go snowshoeing in a ice storm. Not only will you have to hang the gun over the wood stove to get it out of the holster, but you are likely to slip and fall breaking your damn fool neck. Seems to be a betrayal to turn my back on her now. When I was a handgun hunter a 5.5 sbh, sadly that went down the road when I no longer had the time to stay in practice for what I felt was ethical for me to hunt with a handgun. Where the real danger is, "civilization", a S&W 638

I normally carry a homemade slingshot and a bag of marbles. Yeah, I used to live in New York too :-) edit: And home made is not traceable! Where in NY did you used to live?

My woods/swamp/mountains/etc these days is the indoor range I work on. If I'm just dropping in it is a Ruger LCP 22 in a Simply Rugged pocket holster. If I stay all day more often than not the carry is a Glock G41 in a GunfightersInc chest holster. I've got chest holsters for L and N frame S&W and RH and SRH Rugers but the Glock comes with me mostly. A civilized sized gun on my hip kills my back. Chest carry works good.
