But don't hold me to it, some days it's my S&W 45 Mountain Gun, or a 44 special 696, could be a 44 flat top. You have to change with what runs across the road.......... Thanks to Bob the 38 Super with the 128 gr cast HP's never leaves the lockbox, everything else gets traded out depending on how blood thirsty I am. Badgers are always at the top of the list. Doc Rogers got one yesterday.

Dick, How are the throats in your Mt Gun? I have a late model (25-13), throats are huge. Dave

Fishing I carry either a .40 Commander or my Ruger 3 1/2" Birdshead. If needed a gator shot will be close and the .40 or .45 will make a decent enough sized hole in the head to not worry so much about shot placement... hopefully :-) DaveB. This fall will be my first hog hunt in a while and I'm reading that they're now pretty thick in the WMA's. I'll likely take my 5 1/2" Blackhawk .45 Colt because shots are closer in the thick stuff than out in the open. Then again if I find shots are a bit longer on day one, maybe I'll switch to the BH Hunter .44. I like three lakes WMA a bit north of Yeehaw Junction. Good luck! I didn't draw a single tag here in NM, may try to find a reasonably priced TX hog hunt. Florida has summer WMA hunts in several of their areas that do not appear to be on a lottery, I am going to look into them.

daveb, the throats are fine in mine. I shoot .452" slugs, I also had it cut for moon clips so I can shoot 45 ACP's in it. I use a 205 gr cast HP in the ACP's, you can wind them pretty tight! That with a couple of spare moon clips on the belt feels pretty good when riding the 4 wheeler in the mountains.

It will shoot jacketed fine, but I only have 2 molds that drop a big enough bullet for it to shoot well. Dave

Daveb, I have a 25-13 also. It's been years, but I remember mine as .452. And it's a shootin machine.

Dave, have you tried powder coating & leaving them unsized? Worth a try.

Wondering what everyone carries when headed into the woods/swamp/mountains/etc.? I know some folks like to carry their CCW, when I head to the desert or the mountains I rarely carry anything but a revolver, usually my 454 in a Simply Rugged Chesty Puller rig. Dave
Usually either a Ruger Bisley, Redhawk, or Super Redhawk in 45 Colt, 454, or 480 Ruger. Barrel lengths vary from 2.5 to 5.5". At times at 4-3/4" FA 475. In winter, at times a 4" 629 or 4"ish Redhawk in 44mag. The 4-5/8" 480 is becoming a favorite. All are carried in chest holsters.

Our county only has one real town (with the only stoplight in the county) that's 25 miles from the house. County to the north is the same and the nearest Walmart is 35 miles. Will go to Wally World today for charcoal as we also have to go to the barber, which is in the same town two counties north. We don't encourage folks to move here as everyone has guns, drive trucks and eat meat. We are lucky to have moved here over 50 years ago. BTW, town gun today is a Colt Wiley Clapp CCO in .45ACP.

Good thread. The original question could also be phrased "What is your perfect packin' pistol?" Thank you Mr. Taffin for that very descriptive terminology. For me it's something in a .45. S&W Mountain Gun or Governor, Ruger flattop, or Springfield RO Compact. It depends on what part of the country you live in and what you expect to encounter.

No woods, hills, or swamps available for me to roam - these days. 99 times out of 100 around town, it's either a M640-1 or M&P340. If things look especially dicey, G19 Gen5, or Colt Lwt Commander in 45ACP
