I like the story about the lady that bought herself a defense gun. She showed it to her husband after work and he asked her why she bought a 45. She replied because they didn't have a 46...

I kicked around the idea of buying one. I always like a new caliber or something new. Not really for a primary carry gun. I’m a 40 S&W or .357 guy but just something different. I do love my Glock 43x for a compact carry gun. It hold 10 the same as the .30 SC does so what’s the advantage? The idea has passed. I will put the money towards another revolver.
I was In BPS the other day. They had a bunch of S&W EZ Carry in 30 SC. I looked at them and then asked the same question as others. Do you have any ammo? Nope. Lol. Thought to sell a gun you can’t shoot.

By the time the ammo becomes available the bloom will be off the rose and everyone will have lost interest...
In this day and age of communication you would think Federal/Nighthawk/S&W could have done a little better coordinating the release so that everything hit the shelves at once...
...sad.

Or have so much ammo on the shelves that it's cheaper than 22LR, how many people would've bought 2 guns just to have something to shoot?!

Wonder what all these TactiCool guys will do now that ammo is so expensive... I read posts where someone would not think of carrying a new gun till they put 500 rounds through it...
And I always asked them the question..."What happens if your gun chokes at round #450...start the count over..." They usually never answered...

Put it on the road of course!
We have the 30SC Shield and lots of ammo. The first stuff was in 20 round boxes and expensive. The cheap stuff showed up a couple of weeks ago. Light recoil and no wild muzzle blast. The shooters that like the 380 Shield will like it.

Would be interesting to know the real velocity in one of the small carry guns, not a 5" Nighthawk...
How much are you selling the practice ammo for...

My interests are reloading dies and brass.. Still looking for them. I don't see it as a carry gun cartridge. I see it as a minimum recoil cartridge old man's gun for NRA Precision Pistol. 2.5 pound trigger, Aimpoint 9000SC, built tight as slick as a bank vault... They have already adapted the 32 ACP. The 30 SC should be a much happier cartridge in a bullseye gun. Much like my 38 Super paper punchers it will be nothing like the 32SC you buy off the shelf or even find published loading data for.

I've had a 30SC in a S&W for a few months now. I don't really have a use for it but I won't speculate on how well it will do in the long run. Shoots just fine. I will say that lots of people want more bullets in smaller guns, and this fills that role, while providing basically 9mm performance. To that end, the recoil is pretty much identical feeling to me, so if 9mm is too much for some people, this won't solve that problem.
As far as why it was released now...Federal has people working on various projects all the time. This was started long before the ammo shortages and price increases. They weren't going to fire their R&D people, and so when the project was ready to be released, they did. Lots of new gun owners these days. They don't have the guns and ammo we have. They don't reload. If they are going to buy a gun for maybe the first time and some ammo to go with it, this one is just as easy or difficult to feed as anything else. And since they don't know much, the extra rounds in the mag are appealing.
