The Combat Commander/All steel Commander came along in the 1970s IIRC.
9mm Commander is the place to be today if you're not a reloader.

What's the weight? BBL length appears to be 4.25?

My 69 shoots 245 Keiths at 1100fps all day long. Great concept for a large bore revolver. The 5 shot L frame just works. I had a 696 but I was always afraid of splitting the forcing cone with moderate 44 Spl loads. Sold it! Didn't purchase the Ruger GP in 44 Spl for the same reason as I sold the 696. But the 69 has solved the forcing cone problem. And my 69 shoots better than my (heresy?) Pre 29 5" 44 Mag. Mainly because the L frame fits me better.
For the record the Pre 29 is no slouch, anywhere, but the 69 is that good.

I'm so glad to see the rear sight "improved". I don't know how many "wobbly" rear sighted, adjustables I have had on Rugers in the last 50 years. Earlier release of this sight would have never caused me to enter the "Master" class of handgunning, but it would have upped my Expert scores.
Unfortunately I no longer own any Ruger handguns. Last one a GP100 MC went to a nephew who loves it.

My favorite J&K frame load is 12.8grains of 2400 over a standard primer and under a 358156 slug. Yeah it's high end 38/44 stuff but very accurate, powerful and easy on small 357s. That Redhawk cylinder is something to play with. I understand the versatility of one chambered for a 360DW. Wow, Downtown Brown!

As a strong supporter of the 69 Smith and owner of each model I heartily recommend them. To me the beauty of the 69 is it's on an L frame takes up less territory on the belt, lower bore ax and very accurate. My heavier N frames stay home and the L frame 69s go with me all the time. Fowler made a great case for the 69.
Packing a 357 sized gun with 44 Mag power. Brian Pearce did an endurance test on the 69 with full horsepower loads and gave it a hearty recommendation.
My favorite 44 Special load is super accurate in the 69 (as well as others) 240-250 SWC, 8grains of Power Pistol and a standard primer in a 44 Special case for 950-1000fps depemding on bl length. Best part is the pressure 17K PSI. The load just described was offered by Brian Pearce.
Magnums when you need them and Specials when you don't.

Carry that 15 with confidence and pride. Love the diamond Magnas and T grip.

What is the finish on my Wiley Clapp 3" GP? Curious, it's sure a paint in the butt to get powder residue off.

Check out the grips for the SS on Amazon. Jaruwan and other Thailand makers make some nice grips.

Bought my first 69 4" in late 14 or early 15. It's my constant comanion in the brush. Great shooters, clever design. My bigger 44s stay in the house, an L frame 44 is perfect for packin.

Nice shooting, the 85 series from Taurus are a reputable snubby. Just purchased a 856 in the UL. I don't shoot as well with it as you do with that 85.
