What I was looking for when I asked for a 640 style 50 cal bullet was something that mimicked the 477640 hp. I love the 477640 bullet and thought it would be great in a 50 cal version cast soft and pushed at lower speeds to make for more comfortable shooting in these lighter 50s like the 500 jrh and 500 we. The 477640 is a proven design on large and small game, just need a similar 50 cal.

I posted on the castboolits forum about the 50 cal hp design being worked on here, hopefully there will be more interest to start a group buy.

The 420gr hp was just a starting number, extra pins would be great and add to the versatility like the 3 crimp grooves do, thanks.

That looks great! I like the versatility of the 3 crimp grooves for different guns. Could a deeper hp pin be added down to the upper crimp groove, would cut down on weight but expansion would be increased. Either way I would be in for a plain base mold.

Does anyone know where a guy can get a 5.5 JRH. My dealer says there aren’t any ant his distributors. Or is my best option to have him order one The one I just got was ordered from Williams Shooters Supply.

Any .500 JRH data in that area? That design you want incorporates a crimp groove on it for the Special to achieve JRH length. Will have to check, thanks.

I'd bet 50 AE data would be mighty close to what you need. I thought that but limited data for heavy bullets, 480 Ruger is close and I use HS-6 in mine under a 400 gr cast bullet.

I have Starline .500 Special 1.275" cases that I'm planning to use in my .500 JRH BFR. I was looking to use a 440gr cast bullet with HS-6 powder and looking for speeds of 900-1000 fps. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Jeffer, I noticed your trigger guard looks different than mine, mine is opened up on the front giving more room. Magnum Research advertised this as one of the changes when going to the bisley grip frame. Is your bisley grip factory? Possibly I'm seeing it wrong or a variance when going to the new grip.

What are the cylinders throat dimensions. With recessed case heads, please insert cases and give me a distance from the case head to the front of the cylinder. On my BFR with .500 Special brass, it measures 1.858" from case head to the front of cylinder. On my S&W 500 Magnum it measures 2.355" from case head to front of cylinder. I dont think I have a way to measure throat dimensions.

Is that a long cylinder ejrh? I don't think so, it only pushes the brass about half way out of the cylinder.

I had posted in a separate topic about wanting/needing a 640 style .500 bullet. It would be best if it would work in the 500 S&W Magnum, 500 JRH, 500 WE, and the 500 Special. I would be looking for a target weight of 420 gr with the largest hp pin. I measured my S&W 500 cylinder, it's 2.300 and the case rims are not recessed into it. Specs show a max case length of 1.625". Now we need the specs of the other 50 cal guns to get things rolling. What do you guys think?I think we need the specs from other guys who have these calibers and specific cylinder lengths from those folks who chamber these in their products. I'm sure several people here have these............... Ok Bob, I got a BFR in .500 JRH. The cylinder measures 1.848" with recessed case heads. I don't have JRH brass but have Starline .500 Special brass. It measures 1.275" and bullets seem like they can be seated .450" into the case before the case walls start to thicken.I believe JRH brass is 1.400" long.

Forgot to add, the barrel does measure 5 1/2" from the cylinder face unlike the older BFR's that were measured from the frame.
