I had some conversation with Craig on his Facebook page concerning his Cimarron .380 Pocket Police. This gun is a replica of a non-existent revolver based on the Colt 1849 Pocket Model. This little revolver shoots the .380 ACP cartridge and is made as an open top cartridge revolver. The use of the .380 was selected as it was rimless, and the small diameter cylinder did not allow sufficient room for a rimmed .38 caliber cartridge.
BUT the loading trough lacks a loading gate as found on more sensible Single Action revolvers. Craig said the cylinder is clocked so that cartridges are retained when the gun is cocked or when the hammer is down. They do pass the trough as the cylinder rotates, and if the muzzle is elevated, the gun "self ejects."
Too bad, as the little gun is a beauty from photos I've seen of the pistol. I was interested when the gun was announced, but that feature turned me off.

Agreed, the decision to unload my gun is mine, alone.

They're 'supposed' to be clocked in such a way that the cartridges do not line up with the loading port when the hammer is down or cocked. The idea being that you would slightly tilt the barrel downwards when advancing the cylinder to prevent the cartridge cases backing out. Mine doesn't do that and ejects while I'm shooting. It's an aggravating contraption.
They're based on the original conversions that also did not have a loading gate. They were originally going to be 4" guns but they had to extend the barrel to 6" to get them imported due to weight restrictions. The whole project was a good idea that just didn't turn out right.

I bet if you load them with black the blowback will keep them from falling out?

My pair of 51 Navies, were built to look like an original cartridge conversion ( so no loading gates ) they do not self eject while shooting normally... so going back to the pocket police... maybe the loading port is too large, too much space between the back of the cylinder, & the recoil shield... or maybe just the lower mass of the pocket police revolver... or the shorter case mine were chambered & guns marked marked for 38 Long Colt... but the specs are so close ( on purpose in my case ) that these will fire 38 Special also... though I have several 100 Starline 38 Long Colt cases

Where do you get one of those One of what? If you mean the original it came from Cimarron. If you mean mine you make it by cutting the barrel to 3 inches and mounting a new front sight.

Hmmm. I have a number of conversions without loading gates. I have to point them up over 45-degrees and cock them slowly for a cartridge to slip out.
