That's a nice looking gun at a good price, if a hunting 41 is what you want. Grips would really class it up.

Agree on the sights, but that gun needs a scope anyway so not a deal breaker.

I have a Ted Blocker holster that's the same design as the Longhorn Companion. Can't remember what they call it. It's quality. A 7.5 inch maximum rides in it.

FA 97 44 Special 5.5 in is my go-to gun.
Mine 97s are as tight as my 83, but I bet accuracy of your gun is top tier still.

A 38-40 would be nice but unnecessary.
357 B&D as well.
But neither will do what the 41 will, and it’s both easier and more popular.
I don’t think FA makes anything that takes 40 cal barrel stock.

I lucked into a good deal on a Mountain Lite 396. I'll probably try to find some grips that enclose the back strap, and haven't decided on a sight upgrade vs RMR. The front and rear sights are both taller than necessary, and the V notch rear and round top fiber optic front don't fit with my preferred sight picture. I plan to practice with light loads using HS6 and cast bullets, but for carry I can't beat the CCI aluminum case 200 grain Gold Dot load for a good combination of light weight and low recoil with an excellent bullet. I have no plans to abuse the thin forcing cone. It remains to be seen what role this gun will play with a Model 69 in the safe as well. Holding each in hand the difference in weight is dramatic. The ball detent lockup on the crane and the beefy forcing cone make it clear the 69 is the superior workhorse.

The Arisaka was tried and did not do well, though I don’t remember the details.
The Arisaka barrel was sold a couple of years ago on the specialty pistols forum IIRC.

Nice score and even better shooting!
Now I’m extra glad I didn’t bid on that one. It went for a great price for a standard barrel, much less an octagon with a nice scope.
Just couldn’t get into another project right now that didn’t come with dies. I’ve got a pair of Bullberry barrels in 7-30- a pistol and a carbine- and they’re favorites. 30-30 wildcats in a Contender are approaching the best use of the platform.
Next time, send me the 7-30 ammo to shoot. I’ll prime it and send it back ready to be loaded to 6.5 😂

The SN dates it to 2000 or 2001, long after John was marking guns properly.
Rebored
Don't love the front sight
The gun was maybe a 20-30 min drive from me, but my questions of the seller, including a request to inspect the gun in person, went unanswered.
Could be a perfectly good quality, serviceable conversion but too many unknowns with an non-communicative seller.

In hand, they're really cool guns and feel great. The consideration that went into making them screw less/pinless is impressive, and makes for a handsome gun.
If I was doing a custom Mikkenger, I'd tweak the lines of the rear sight ears-topstrap-barrel rib. For a custom barrel, a solid rib that's a dovetail for scope mounting might look nice and allow a Hunter configuration. The only visible screw is the ejector rod housing, and surely there's a fix for that.
I might've spent some time looking at what kind of custom I could have made of mine. Dangerous thoughts.

That's a really good price considering most No 1s bring that much now, and it's an uncommon and desirable configuration. They're often reamed to 357 Max and make a nice hunting rifle. If I didn't have a Max No 3 I'd be buying this one and doing just that.

The reason people typically convert a rimfire to centerfire for these conversions is to use an old model since the transfer bar can be problematic in 357 and larger conversions. There may be a work around for the NM, but others here would be more familiar with that.
For the 327, definitely just start with a new model 32 H&R.

I moved last fall and realized my reloading had gotten out of hand. Setup and organization of bullets and brass continues to this day.
At least yours is loaded ammo!
