In my younger days I leaned towards the biggest and baddest magnum rifles I could find . . . . years later, as the decades have passed and the wisdom of those that came before me began to sink it, I find myself leaning towards bigger bullets at medium speeds. So, the magnums are all gone and I rely on my 9.3x57 Husqvarna, my Remington Model 8's and 81's, especially in 35 Remington, and my Marlin lever actions. I enjoyed using this Marlin in 35 Remington to take my antelope doe this year. My hunting partner snickered about my "brush gun" on the high plains of Colorado. Of course when he missed his Antelope and my "brush gun" cleaned killed my doe in one shot at around 280 yards, he had to eat his words. He said, "I didn't think that thing would shoot that far" and marched off the distance himself. That 200 grain Hornady slug broke the left shoulder, traveled through her boiler room, and broke the right shoulder as it exited. My partner just said "Pretty impressive for a brush gun." I couldn't agree more.

Hard to beat a 35 Remington. I've always had a thing for that old round. A century old and still takes deer with the best of 'em. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I firmly believe that the .35 remington and the 30-30 are the two nicest rifle cartridges developed in this century.

This is my current favorate. It's a FNH PBR with 22" barrel(1 in 12" twist) It has a Weaver 24 power target scope and it makes tiny little groups. Here is a picture of a 5 shot group I shoot at 100 yards. Bill

I'm planning to take out my Remington Model 700 in .260 Remington this deer seaon but my favorite hunting rifle is this Savage Model 11 in .338 Federal (mainly used for feral hogs). The .260 Remington A three shot group at 100 yards with a Barnes 120 gr. Tipped TSX

My goto deer rifle these days is this Remington Custom Shop Model 7 Mannlicher in .257 Roberts. It is shown with this years buck. This year I used a 100 gr. Sierra at 3,000 fps. Of course we all know that Mannlicher stocked guns aren't accurate.

Just got back from my weekend hunt, got this nice eight point at 150 yards. No complaints with the 120 gr. TSX but I'll probably use a 125 gr. Nosler Partition next time (if I go out again).

My first rifle was a Ruger 77 in 30-06. My Dad had a 30-06, so that's what I went with. He gave me all his ammo and bullets so I had a good start with loading my own right from the start. Sold that Ruger and got a Remington 700 BDL that I use now. I've never had any problem hunting anything in Washington or Oregon with the reliable '06.
I have a little stock Ruger 10/22 for fun and small game.
I picked up a Savage 110 that had been rechambered to 338-06 a couple years ago, and I would really like to take an elk with it.

I'm afraid I can be of no help whatever. From Evil Black Rifles and other semi autos to bolts, levers, break opens, falling blocks and front stuffers I have not been able to make that decision.
I hope you too won't be able to in the end and will be able to try and use them all!

Kimber MT 325wsm. Last moose season and spring bear it stayed home as I'm trying to connect with my 45 Colt SBH BisHunter. My other is a stainless Puma 454 20inch barrel. I haven't hunted with it yet. I carry it for bear protection sometimes if the wifey is going to be across the berry patch or down the stream from me. I may pack it on a griz hunt this spring. My buddy wants to get a griz and he'll be packing his 338 RUM. Makes a nice companion to the 454 Redhawk. Oh, and the ol Rem Nylon 22 rides on the handle bars of the 4wheeler at times moose hunting for quick shot at a Ptarmigan.
