I found some data. You're looking at about 1100 with a 220, about 1000 with the 350-375 It's right for a Smith and Wesson revolver 220? or 320? When I spoke to Jack I thought he said max weight would be 325-350. I had in my mind using 275-325 grain bullets. That would be a good plan.

You know how excited I get about the wacky Single Six projects. I don't think we'll have the room through the barrel journal. Definitely not through the loading gate.

If I could get one in there I'd do five. Any way you slice it, the barrel journal is the first obstacle that comes to mind.
Of course I've spent what few idle moments today thinking about how I'd fit everything in there on an old model frame. "Additive process" keeps flashing red at the base of the screen.
I really need to get an old model frame to whittle on...

Back in March I posted that Jack Huntington was working on a midframe Ruger building me the .475 JRH special but I was delayed in picking it up due to the travel restrictions. I picked it up in early summer but was unable to post any pictures. I just saw where dougader posted in September he would be willing to post any pictures if they were sent to him. I just sent him a couple pictures of the gun Jack built and hope he will post the here.
I had found a 3 screw .357 that someone had put a brass Ruger Dragoon grip frame on. Jack converted it to a .475 Special, built a 5 hole cylinder, milled the rear sight “wings” off to make it into a flat-top, color cased the frame and hammer, and built some beautiful English Walnut grips.
This is my new favorite revolver.

My thanks to Dougader for posting these. These pictures were all I had and file size was kind of limited.
Someone else had asked for pictures of loaded ammunition compared to the .480 Ruger and .475 Linebaugh. I don’t have a Linebaugh but I do have a Ruger SBH in .480. When I get some more ammo loaded up and make it back to the range, I will try to take another picture or two comparing the two revolvers and their respective ammunition.

Really sweet shooting gun too. Definitely get more, bigger, higher resolution photos up of this revolver. It's a looker!

Just saw this So a five shot on a mid frame......why not a 480? Just because I can understand .......
But the special can be done on a full-size frame as a 6 shot 475.......on a Ruger

I think 420gr bullets at 1200fps was the agreed upon limit but I might be off there. I have thought a midframe Flat top in 480 would be the ticket (I love my FA 83 in 480) but then I also love the idea of a 50GI on the same platform just for fun. I have a lot more idle thoughts than funds available thankfully...

That is stout......for 480..........the SRH does the 480......but a bigger cylinder and a 465 steel....... That is way too hot.

My Freedom Arms 475 lives very happily on a steady diet of 375 gr bullets at 1050fps, often only at 865fps... Just speaking of what I was told the limit by John was, that particular gun was regulated to a 400 or 420gr (dont recall) at 1050 or 1100fps I think. Plenty of power for anything I would ever carry such a gun for.

I haven’t been here for awhile and I see there hasn’t been any posts since the end of 2021. It just doesn’t seem that long ago I was posting about my .475 JRH Special. Well nothing new to add about that great little handgun but I now have another project in the works. I originally bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .480 Ruger. Then I had Jack Huntington build me a mid frame Ruger Blackhawk in .475 Special. Since then I have been searching high and low for a companion carbine that could be used alongside either handgun. Now I have got a used Ruger #3 in 45-70 inbound to my location. Upon arrival, I will get over to Jack to be rebarreled to .480 Ruger. I have always liked single shot rifles and especially falling block types. I expect this to be a great companion piece.
