Eh I thin it is like anything else why does one guy like a 40 S&W over a 45 ACP? Personal choice.
The 38/40 with blackpowder load will shoot a touch flatter, the more tapered case it might have been a little less prone o To blackpowder fouling but I have ZERO experience here so just speculating.
I think the 38/40 is a pretty cool cartridge and falls in a bit of a unique place amoungst the cartridges where the 44/40 and the 44sp seem to be pretty much twins and the 44sp brass is a bit easier to reload and obtain.
To each their own.

This is the only gun/knife combo picture I have. Yeah but it’s a pretty good one.

If you zoom on on the left side of the gun it appears the caliber marking says 45LC, id think that was long colt of course.
Now even zoomed in it isnt 100% clear so I might be wrong, its happened before if you can believe that...

www.mp-molds.com/product/mp-477-640-light-2-cavity-hollow-point-mold-multi-choice/This is light version and the standard version is 405ish in a solid and 485ish with the big hollowpoint nose. They have sort of become the gold standard for that caliber. When the original mold was designed Zeus was the driving force and we measured my FA to get the optimum nose length on the shorter crimp groove and added a second deeper crimp groove for some of the longer custom cylinders out there. Personally I have run a 375gr LFBPB bullet fro LBT for 15+ years and between that and the MP mold all the bases I ned covered with the 475 are well covered. I have cast a bullet from my 425gr LBT mold in years and years. The light MP would be great for deer and more “fun” shooting (you will enjoy the 475 more if you don’t hit rod them all the time) and luckily it is available right now, something 475 molds can be tricky with, it’s not a terribly popular caliber so no one really stocks molds in that caliber. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Barranti leather has a few cool options for that gun assuming you like classic leather.

Gentlemen the guys bidding on such a gun are not worried about paying the buyers premium. Just saying it’s a different level of gun enthusiast there.

Just seat them a touch deeper than the ogive and crimp, shouldn’t be an issue. They will shoot quite low against sights that normally see 250gr+ bullets the 45 colts are known for.

Sorry can’t post guns from sale here by the host of the forum rules. You have to post them elsewhere like the Ruger forum and then you can post a link from here but not directly post a gun for sale.
Not Lee’s rules but the forum host rules

I have a Win 1892 trapper take down in 45 colt so sort of similar guns. The classic Winchester style of unscrewing the magazine tube a long ways so the action can be twisted apart is a bit cumbersome in my opinion. With my gun I wish the barrel and magazine were more like 18”-20”, the same length as the stock and action so when it is broken down they were equal lengths. Skinner sights makes a very cool takedown case with the idea of having you rifle, a box of ammo, and a few survival things all together and can be tossed behind the seat of your truck. Having the barrel be 4” shorter than the action seems sort of wasted if you know what I mean. Just make them equal and go.
As it is with this short little rifle I just never take it down, it is still extremely snug fit and small enough as it is to just leave be. Very cool handy rifle that has all sorts of power available if needed.

I would be anything that mold has never cast a bullet. All the molds that guy had at the auction were "seasoned" with that gray film that I cant recall the name of now. But it only makes them easier to cast with, and Accurate molds are very easy to cast with...
Im sure this mold will be a winner for a 41 mag guy...

Been 10-15yrs ago Fermin had an octagon FA set up the same way. I really wanted that gun, but ended up finding a NIB one with a round barrel at a great price. I put a scope on it and shot some really really good 100 yd groups with the 32-20’s. Also have another 97 convertible but with the 327 Fed cylinder. Never shot it though. I remember that gun, I actually found it here in Colorado and he jumped on it. He struggles with 97 grip frames so it went down the road and bounced around to a member or two here, I have often wondered what became of that gun. I shot it once and it was a awesome tack driver that I dearly wish I owned...

LOW QUAIL NUMBERS THROUOUT SOUTH TEXAS, APPARRENTLY THE EXTREME HEAT DURING THE SUMMER KILLED THE EGGS Seems every year has some catastrophe that hammers quail, drought, hail, pigs eating all of the eggs, too many predators, what not else. Life is hard for quail, too bad they are a great bird...

Lots of good medium level powder options these days, HS6 is a long time favorite of mine, Longshot is good, 4227 is a long time favorite but over the last few years I have really settled into Power Pistol being my favorite powder for most of my shooting.
YMMV
Bradshaws deep seating works too, I like it so that I can glace at a loaded round and KNOW if it is a reduced load or a full power one (I have been deep seating reduced loads for a while).
