Both of yours look good. Hopefully we'll be able to connect at some point. Otherwise we'll just have to share pictures. Yeah, we'll have to try to connect. Find a good halfway point at some time and make it happen!! But in the meantime, we'll definitely continue to share the pictures. I share a bunch on Instagram if anyone is interested. @hounder71 Private account but just put a request in.

Where in NY did you used to live? A "little" town called Phoenicia, actually not in town, in their "burbs" called Woodland Valley up the road several miles from town. It's northwest of Kingston off Rt. 28. I've been there. I raised my kids in Tully NY. Grew up near Monticello. My cousin had a camp in Copake NY and my girlfriend and I stayed there and did a lot of hiking in the Catskills in before he sold it in early 2022.

If you are going into the Bob I suggest a more potent firearm. a very nice area. When I head into the Bob, I will have my .44 mag and might even bring the 30-30. An outfitter I know says all you need is a sawed off shotgun and double ought buckshot

Dougader, How long ago was that? Aside from the ridiculous pricing on rent/housing/land, its a beautiful place to live. I absolutely love it here.
Flathead lake is beautiful. I can't get over how clear the water in the rivers are here. Whitefish is extremely touristy. Great for people watching.

Very cool Kevshell!!! Love the Blue Roan. Mine just got here today. I had her shipped from the East coast. Had her since she was 3. She is 17 now. My other horse that is already here and her came from the same barn in Minnesota and are the same age.

Great pictures. I know why you moved there/here. I'm in process of doing the same (south of Livingston). Congratulations. You'll be about 5.5 hours from me. Are you planning on getting any stock? I saw your post about the trip into the mountains. Great pictures and looks like you all had a great time. Not sure if I have been here long enough to say it, but Welcome to Montana! I like your quote: "I am one of the people moving to Montana that doesn't want it to change in fact I want it to go backwards. Most of the books that I read for fun are about settlers, trappers, ranchers, indians, bears and what it was like 50-200 years ago. But I want my cake and to eat it too....go back in time but have the more modern firearms (Pre 64 Winchester, Ruger revolvers, etc)"

My use for it is going to be just for carry in the back country. Being a 4.5" barreled SBH, it fits the bill perfectly. That's why I bought it. I had another 4.5" barreled Old Model that was absolutely Perfect. I loved it. In mint condition with aftermarket halfmoon ejector rod and custom cylinder pin. My son moved to Wyoming. He had a 7.5" barrel SBH that he hated packing around. I told him I would send him the Old Model to carry but if I ever moved west I would want it back. Well, here I am, he loves it, and I don't have the heart to take it back from him.
I'll practice and have it dialed in to a maximum of around 40 yards. I think it looks great as it is (minus the front sight issue). No reason to reblue and the grips fit my hand perfectly so no need to change them out either. Just going to shoot it and carry it and add more patina of memories to the old girl.
But I do appreciate all the input, that's why I like this forum so much.

Never had any experience with ground squirrels until I moved. Now I see how much of a nuisance they are. Can't shoot much more than a pellet gun where I work(i have gotten a few with the pellet gun) but they say dropping bubble gum in the hole will kill them, They eat it, can't digest it and can't pass it or anything else after they eat it. And I run the grounds department on a golf course in a resort setting with houses and condos lining the fairways. That's why it's pellet gun only. And no, I don't play golf. Most people are surprised to hear that.
That being said, Great job on the family reducing the population. I am shocked at not only the numbers you have taken, but the sheer number of those little varmints in your area

When horseback it's always a revolver. Either my .44 special, or I may start packing the new SBH with 4.5" barrel depending on whether or not I'm riding in an area with grizzlies and wolves. When fishing or hiking, I lean towards my FN509 with a chest holster.

Augusta is about 2 1/2 hours from me. That's one of the trailheads I was hoping to use to get into the Bob to see the Chinese Wall. Might need to find another way in. I have seen those pictures before and knew it was near the Bob, just didn't know it was Augusta. That thing is HUGE!! Has there been any guesses on it's weight and how tall it actually is?
