Thanks for all the info guys. I'm looking at the rack and field grade CMP rifles, as well as looking at rifles available locally. I checked out one yesterday with a '52 Springfield Armory receiver and a '43 SA bolt that was interesting. I passed because the stock was a mess and the rifle would likely have required a new barrel based on the condition of the rifling. I will say that learning about Garands is like drinking from a fire-hose--the amount of information available is impressive, and I'm looking forward to continuing to learn.
I'm interested in the use of the Garand with cast bullets. Are there any fouling issues with the gas port? I likely will not use cast myself (I have my '03 Springfield for that).

I have a hard copy from Bowen on my shelf, but the copy I read the most is the Kindle edition. Well worth the ten bucks I paid for it.

"I've developed a powerful hankering for an M1 Garand as a shooter and perhaps an "old rifle match" rifle to go along with my Grandfather's M1903 Springfield.β ----oregon45

I found when organizing my library this afternoon that I've got two copies of this classic book; I only need one, so I'll let this copy go. How about $30 shipped? This is the faux-leather Firearms Classics Library edition. Book is in great condition with a strong spine and no tears, underlining or margin notes.

Any way to post a pic from the back side? Please? Sorry for the delay in replying; my wife and I welcomed our twin daughters in July, so finding time to visit my gun-safe is a challenge! Also, the indentations in the leather hood are from the Bowen rear sight on my Nimrod; I think once the holster breaks in that contact will no longer be an issue.

I agree with Kings6. I'd also not waste time (and the listing fee) listing them on Gunbroker when you likely can sell them here or on the Ruger Forum in a very short period of time.

I ordered a holster from Barranti and specified that it would be for a Bowen Nimrod with the banded front sight; the holster he delivered fits perfectly.

I've found the Pachmayr grips superior to the wood grips on my Ruger .357 Maximum 10.5" for silhouette shooting. The material filling the gap behind the trigger guard, and the all-around larger dimensions, really help with holding elevation on the 200m Rams.
