Older Model 25's in 45 Colt with larger cylinder chambers and throats can still just as good as the tighter clearances new models. I don't mean that on neck sizing the cases. I shoot .452 cast from my older 25 with .456 cylinder throats and fat chambers into very small top tuned 1911's groups at 25 yards and beyond. On another forum a friend asked me to shoot my 9 grains of Unique load with the 255-260 grain RCBS SWC off the bench at 100 yards. I got a 1.5 inch group. So don't trade your older ones in for a new one specifically for tighter clearances.

I have a 25-13, I bought it when they were introduced. I'm another one who won't be selling any time soon. I run the 45-270SAA over 9.5grs of unique and don't need or want more. With that load the gun makes me look like a champ, and usually it stacks the Lee 45 truncated flat point tumble lube bullet over 5grs Bullseye. I have yet to find a load it doesn't like.

That sounds like good medicine. I have decided that when the gun gets here I’m going to try my 10gr AA5 load rather than 13gr HS-6. I believe that should be very similar to the 8gr unique load.

I picked this up yesterday at a LGS, Model 25-15, been looking at it in the shop for quite awhile. Worked 23 hours of OT out in the rain, snow and wind this week and felt like I needed to reward myself. Too worn out to shoot it today, however, I'm hoping a day off and maybe a nap will help me find the energy to give it a go tomorrow. I'll post up the results once I've taken it out. Wonderful Choice!!! I hope it's built like mine. Great tolerances and dimensions. Keep us posted and CONGRATULATIONS... Range report: Went out last weekend to give this one a go. The single action trigger pull averaged right at a crisp 4 lbs +- a tad, double was too heavy for my trigger scale. I brought 3 different handloads with me, all pretty sedate stuff, two shot reasonably well. The pictures show the various groups. The first consisting of 230ish grain (with WW) RCBS CM mold bullets over 7.5 grains of Unique at 15 yds from a rest (shot without the aid of prescription glasses, I'm sure most of you could do much better). The other two loads were 255 grain Flat Point Hornady Cowboy bullets with 6.0 grains of Unique (yup, this is a very light load, they were leftover from an earlier load work up) and 8.0 grains of Vectan Ba9. These were shot offhand at 15 yds. The Vectan shows some promise, however, I found it to be very sooty and leaves a lot of unburned powder behind. I shot the Unique load last and noted that it was vertically stringing pretty badly, I thought it might be my marvelous eyesight or the low charge weight causing that. After the first cylinder of Unique loads, I wanted to bench rest the gun to see if I could improve on the stringing group, so I loaded six more cartridges into the chambers and attempted to close the cylinder. No such luck, the cylinder was not closing, it would enter the frame about 3/4 of the way and then would go no further. I fiddled and fussed with it but was not able to figure out the issue. I considered a ball peen but decided to put it back in the box and spend some time with the 6" model 57 that I purchased with the 25-15 (did I mention how bad the weather was during all of those hours of OT?). I considered calling S&W about the problem but I didn't relish the thought of sending the gun via UPS and trying to receive it back. I decided to take it to a local gunsmith who has been helpful in the past. Charley looked at it, pulled the crane and cylinder off, disassembled them and found a burr on the center pin. He figured the burr had been rolled over with each successive shot until it finally caused the gun to lock up. He has deburred the rod and the cylinder now goes into the frame as it should. I hope to take it out again this weekend and get through more than 30 rounds. Once I get some rounds down range and wring this one out a bit I'll probably take it back to Charley and see if he can do some work on the trigger. I have high hopes for this gun, as I think it is a beautiful thing and I really like the look of the thin barrel and tall front sight. All it needs is a lovely pair of grips to finish it off. Oh, by the way, for those that are interested the bbl/cyl gap is in the neighborhood of .010. I know, not great.

I finally received my Mountain gun! From the pictures online I thought I was getting a blued gun, something about the lighting. I arrived to the LGS to do the transfer and was pleased to see bright stainless steel staring back at me! The exact model was not disclosed on the posting, but it is a 625-9. I am tickled to death with it. Will update again when I get to shoot it.

You're going to love that Mountain Gun, there's just something about them I think you’re right. I’ve been dry firing it and love it already. The double action trigger is smooth and not excessively heavy, while the single action trigger almost scares me how light and crisp it is. It is a much better single action trigger than my Blackhawk. I have started on the holster today and I think it will turn out nicely.

Little update here, haven’t put the mountain gun on paper yet but I have been shooting old beer cans and soda bottles around the house. My favorite load so far has been a 452460 over 10 grains of AA5. It is light recoiling and dead nuts accurate.

Does anyone know of a gunsmith that would be able to supply and install a 4" barrel on the current 25-15?
