I am by no means an expert on the endurance upgrades and I am sure some of the Smith & Wesson guys here will know more on this, but I believe some of the endurance upgrades were a deeper cut bolt notch on the cylinder, new style cylinder bolt, and a radius was added the bottom of the internal pins so they were thicker where they attached to the frame, also believe that there may have been an improvement in how the crane locks up front. Yes, using stock front sight . I found some descent rams horn grips and use a black grip adapter with them bkgrips.com/ . I see deeper cut bolt notches as a hinderance especially the larger caliber and there's not a lot of metal between that notch that cylinder wall and Smith's notches, on 6 chamber cylinders , the notch is dead center over the center of the chamber. I know on my Model25 Smith in 45 Colt that ares I described is mighty thin!

If you are talking about the grip adapter, it is just a piece that you slip in place under the grips before you tighten them down . As far as the endurance upgrades , that is a factory thing

As far as the endurance upgrades , that is a factory thing I was referring to the endurance upgrades, I should have specified. I am beyond excited to get this gun in my hands and start shooting. Work starts back in March and my first child will be born any minute now, so it may get back burnered for a bit, but I will be sure to post when I do get some shooting done.

I do wish so badly that the mountain gun was a square butt. They look so much better to me.

I HAVE MESSED AROUND WITH ALL SORT OF GRIPS FOR MY SS 45 COLT RB MOUNTAIN GUN, INCLUDING ROUND TO SQUARE BUTT COKE GRIPS AND ELK STAG WITH TYLER GRIP ADAPTER, AND I AM CURRENTLY BACK TO THE BLACK RUBBER LIKE COMBAT GRIPS THE GUN CAME WITH, KIND'a AN "ugh" LOOK BUT VERY FUNCTIONAL. FOR ME THIS IS NOT A SHOW GUN, IT IS A GUN FOR WHEN I AM NOT USUALLY HUNTING BUT OUT AND ABOUT DOING CHORES AT ONE OF MY LEASES OR JUST WOODS BUMMING. IT IS PLENTY ACCURATE AND POTENT WITH A 250gr PC'ed 250gr RNFP @ 1,066fps, I WILL DIE OWNING MY MOUNTAIN REVOLVER.

There's one of those posing as the little doggy in the window at the LGS. Difficult to keep one's wallet in pocket with those sad eyes

I will soon be the proud owner of a .45 colt mountain gun! That was a good buy. It was on my radar, but I held off. The fact that it wasn't listed as a mountain gun or 25- kept the usual attention off that auction.

I was watching it like a hawk, and I have to say I’m glad you didn’t decide you wanted it because I was stretching it REAL thin on being able to make it happen. In the picture of the right side, with my phone brightness all the way up, I could barely make out “mountain gun” on the barrel.
