I have pondered the same question, since I heard about BFR making a 500L, I thought about selling my 480 Ruger but I love it so dang much, on the heels of the 475L but in a 44 size platform without the custom price tag.
I don't see it as what can B do that A cannot do, but just that B can do it better. a 44 mag/45colt will accomplish anything I'd ask for here in GA, but the 480 will do it better, and a 500L even more so, and a 500SW will obliterate.
But this is a win for BFR, $1400 for a 500L can't be had. $300 more and they'll work it up as a custom (from what I've been told atm), cut to any barrel length and tight as a vault. Still $1000+ cheaper than the big name custom conversions, not including the investment in the gun to start with.
I'm sticking with the 480 for now but for anyone with cash ready thinking about jumping on one, I'd say do it. You hear almost nothing but great things about BFR and the legacy of the 500Linebaugh is hard to ignore.

does anyone know why bfr would charge so much more for the "banana bisley" grip - as a cast piece, it shouldn't cost but a few bucks more than the "standard" unit..

Partly bc the standard grip frame comes with the rubber grips the bisley comes with micarta. Its more of a grip issue than grip frame as i understand.

Crap! Can you say..."hurry up be done with last college bills"! Now THAT--is why I am buying my Ruger Bisley 45 Colt convertible NOW instead of a .454 BFR or Ruger! Get all the mileage and fun out of my 45 Colt in the present...and then save for a legit big bore bump in the future! CAN NOT WAIT!

Any update on the 500 linebaugh BFR? Are they taking orders or making them yet? I haven't contacted them yet...

are they catalogue or special order items? It will be a regular catalog item for 2019 but they are already considering it one now.

This might just reason to buy a second BFR after I get the 475 back, we'll see I was told after I try one I'll have to have another, this would be it or the JRH. Tough choice with brass available for both just makes it tougher!

Great news on the BFR500 Linebaugh. Can anyone pull the pin out of their BFR and measure diameter and shaft length for me? Screw location on the head would be good to know too. Thanks, Kelye @ Belt Mountain

Thanks, Kelye @ Belt Mountain Will do even better than that if you want! It may be after holidays before can get it done, but I bought a take-0ff .475 BFR barrel that shipped with ejector assembly and base pin also if I remember correctly. Have hunting trip planned with me and dad meeting at my shop later this week so will verify my memory and if I have base pin will just ship it to you for your reference. No charge

That would be great! I have some large head #5 pins that might work in the BFR guns. Thank you Sir! Kelye @ Belt Mountain
