I'm intrigued by the cartridge itself. Been reading about it since I was about 11 and would love to have one. After all it is the first real .50 caliber hand-cannon cartridge. Very cool.

I wasn’t knocking the Linebaugh, I have 2 in addition to the BFR 500JRH. I was just saying they all do the same thing in a similar manner.

Just saw a post from the guy that builds the BFRs on social media stating "Starting next week we be taking orders for the biggest production handgun on the planet!!"
So, get your speed dial ready.
The picture posted shows they might be doing a 10" barrel; I commented and asked what barrel lengths are going to be offered as a standard build or if it's only going to be custom to customer choice at first.
Ninja edit - Lengths available up to 10". So it seems they're going the made to order route for the moment.

Thought these were going to have the custom caliber $2050 price tag but I’ll take a production model any day, also said cutting the barrel to 6.5 is extra so I assume theyre going with their standard 7.5” and 5.5”

The new 510 Linebaugh I guess...
Glad to see the .500L in a relatively affordable package. This is a nice step in the world of big bores and hopefully this will allow a whole new group of folks to have some fun with the one that started this all for me. I waited 30 years (literally) to be able to afford a second hand Linebaugh....worth every minute BTW. This is great for those wanting to experience the real .500 Magnum

I already have the jrh and the smith. Ballistically speaking im thinking the 500 smith is the real magnum and the jrh makes the most sense. 500L does nothing better but does have some downsides.

Except fit in a reasonably sized revolver(Ruger Bisley) and shoot bigger and heavier bullets than the JRH..... No downside unless you live some place you can't own a .510 bore...Hahaha!

Don’t argue common sense with emotionally charged rhetoric...this a good thing for the handgun community and the Ford vs Chevy argument/saga continues.....
We can have them all and you can have your favorites. I prefer the classic Linebaugh and this is a good move for BFR. The JRH has a place as well does the .500 Smith... they just will never carry the classic allure of the original that made history.
Now that brother Fermin has addressed the sight shortcomings the BFR is making some tracks...

i thought you said, the real 50 cal magnum, which is the 500 smith. We all have our calibers that piqued our interest back when. Some prefer an old vette, some Prefer the new vettes. Doesnt matter. Shoot the one you want and i think we can all agree its nice MRI is chambering the calibers we all have wanted. Who knew magnum research would be the first company to have a complete revolver hunting line.

Well, I've been waiting patiently with money in hand for 9-10 months now, and now I have to say I'm having second thoughts.
I was at the range with my custom ruger which was supposed to be my 25 yard gun. Range for whatever reason put a man sized steel out at 100 on the pistol range (storage?) and for fun I took some pot shots at it. It was surprisingly easy to hit once I got the Kentucky elevation right. Makes me think my 25 yard gun might be a 100 yard gun.
And since the 500LB was to be my 100 yard revolver, I have to question why? a hot loaded 45 colt with 300 grain hard cast bullet in a large-frame vaquero accurate to 100 yards, well, just what could a 500 LB do that the 45 colt cannot? And the BFR will be larger, longer, and more bulky with ultradot.
It is tempting me to give up on the .510 cal dream, just shoot my Vaquero and be merry..... All based on 3+ cylinders of shooting on one range day....All I need is a new dovetail sight with .1" more height on the blade....
