My little local gun store, thats upstairs over the back of the grocers, has a pile of them. Various finishes and barrels lengths, though mostly short. All .45's. Seem to be a price point beyond Rugers. Roughly, how do they compare ? Do they make same/same in .44spec ? That new .44spec Vaquero has my eye.. steve b

OK, visited their website. Nice looking firearms. Will look further. But I do want to stay with .44spec/.44mag platforms. steve b

"Roughly, how do they compare ?" better quality than just about anyone else. while i own/owned imports, rugers, 3rd gen colts... i find USFA quality far above those. i haven't owned a FA but from my readings they would be USFA's closest quality competitor. they sell 44sp and 44/40 but not 44mag. to understand them better, you might wish to spend some time at the USFA forum: forum.usfirearms.com/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=1and CasCity's USFA forum: www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php?board=36.0

The most finely produced sixguns this side of Freedom Arms. Precisely machined, beautifully finished, perfectly fitted, inside and out. A better gun than Colt for about $400 less.

I not only agree with CraigC & coyote, but respect their opinion! I own a FA Model 97 and it's quality is superb, but I must add that my USFA Bisley is very comparable to the FA in its precision " fit and finish" inside and out. USFA also gives you many caliber options and configurations, and their customer service is outstanding!!! Buy one and shoot it, you'll be happy you did. Shadow

If I had stumbled upon a cache of USFA sixguns at my local, out-of-the-way gunshop, and had this cavalcade of positively gushing recommendations coming at me, and it was just before Christmas... Well, I'd think that Providence might just be trying to tell me something.

I have 4 USFAs (all .45 Colt) and 1 FA 97 (.44 Spec). Almost spoils the Rugers for you. (edited to show that I've gotten another USFA!)

Sadly, USFA has announced an approximately 15% price increase goes into effect on December 18th, 2010. www.usfirearms.com/newsletter-dec2010.htmlMore inflation. Kinda closes the gap between Colt and USFA in terms of price.

I have a USFA Rodeo and the quality comments are right on. However, for general use, I much prefer adjustable sights.
So, in spite of many favorable comments, if I had to choose between them, I would definitely pick my Ruger .44 Lipsey Special every time over any USFA I have seen for shooting purposes.

Colt might be getting more business, as most people will buy a Colt given comparable products at comparable cost.

Until Dec 17th USFA has a sale for their Single Action revolver with a FREE extra cylinder for $975. The choices are 45 Colt/45 ACP or 44 Special/44-40.
That seems like quite a deal to me.
