I've been blessed to have acquired a Turnbull finished Winchester 1892 in 44 Magnum. It was a gift from a friend, and is just a little part of God's amazing blessing on me. Turnbull normally puts clear Cerakote on new guns, and lacquer on restored guns. Since I plan to use the gun in lots of target shooting, plinking, and hunting, and since I want the color case hardened parts to wear commensurately to the rest of the gun I chose to have them coated in lacquer. I don't want a perfect receiver and worn bluing and wood 30 years from now. There were a few flaws when I received it, and Turnbull has rectified the issues. I won't detail those publicly since this isn't a Turnbull bashing thread. This isn't even a Turnbull bragging thread, more like a follow the adventures thread. Some range reporting will follow over the next few weeks/months as I shoot it more. So far, it has digested specials using the RCBS 44-240-SWC and RCBS 44-250-K Keith clone, and Magnums using the Ranch Dog CTL432-265-RF. The former 2 will not cycle in magnum brass unfortunately. I knew the 44-250-K wouldn't even before trying, but I was hoping the 44-240-SWC would, as I don't have another mould that is in the normal weight range. I haven't tested to see what the max length I can get away with is yet, but I have slugged the bore and it is just a hair over .430 on the largest measurement. I'm going to guess .4302 with my calipers. I do have a mic, but It wasn't cooperating at the time of measurement, but I'm calibrated pretty good with my calipers. However the handful of 44-250-K Specials (.430 WW+Sn, White Label 50/50 Lube) that I fired did not lead at all. I figure that tells me what I want to know. The bore is quite smooth and nearly mirror bright and wiped spotlessly clean with only a Remoil soaked patch on a patch loop.

Quite a friend you have. My cousin has its twin in 44/40, it is a mighty fine rifle.
I have a Winchester 45 colt takedown trapper that will allow just SAAMI spec length loads, Iβm sure your is the same. The modification to allow for longer nosed bullets is simple Iβve been told but I havnt done it to mine just yet.

That is a beautiful rifle and I donβt know if I would be able to take it in there he woods or not. I might cry the first scratch I put on it.

Thanks for all the kind words and congratulations.
I don't hunt very tough terrain, or very "hard", so I likely won't scratch it hunting. I'm more likely to do something clumsy, like knock it over. I do plan to hunt deer with it, and I'd like to hunt hogs with it too. It'll be so hard to choose between this and my Blackhawk in 44 Special come deer season, since I've never taken deer with a handgun.
I'm looking forward to doing a lot of load development with it, both specials and magnums. I suppose 5 44 moulds ain't enough.. so I'm on the hunt there too.

Beautiful rifle and hell yes Iβd hunt with itβ¦ some of my favorite memories are sitting over waterholes admiring whichever I happened to be toting that particular day.

8.2gr Power Pistol in special brass with that 250-K should shoot terrific. I have a factory one just like that (without the Turnbull touch) that feeds the 250-K in special brass 100% and shoots it very very accurately.. that be my suggestion. Won't beat your shoulder behind the steel buttplate like the mag-level stuff does either
Those Turnbull rifles are gorgeous.. the wood, the case colors, all of it. Nicest modern winchester there is.
