It will be a slightly slower recoil that doesn't hit so fast, yes.
That fast punch recoil of the 454 is why I sold mine. Now if I need more energy, I just go up in diameter. Here's how I stack mine:
357mag up to 180gr (200 in the Maximum)
45 Colt from 225gr to 315gr
475 from 325gr to 415gr
500 Linebaugh from 355gr to 535gr
500Bushwhacker from 430gr to 585gr

The same bullet weight, with the same powder charge, and same barrel length, the larger diameter cartridge will produce lower pressures. Pressure equals felt recoil. The smaller diameter will fly flatter, but unless you’re looking at really long ranges, it’s a non issue. I love shooting 350’s in a 500LINEBAUGH, they feel like ACP’s

I push my 355's hard. 1550fps. It doesn't feel like an acp! But at 1000fps it's a pleasure.

Never tried a 355 in the Bushwhacker. Bet it'll do 2100fps.

My own design. Accurate 51-355H. A 355gr swc with a wide meplat. Do they have that listed as a catalog item? Yes. Every mold design he has made is cataloged. If he spends his time entering it into CAD to machine it, then doesn't charge extra to do it, he makes up the time by offering it as a regular item.

Back when cast performance canceled their 350 grain, .511 Gas Check bullet, I had Tom at Accurate make the 51-350BG it’s as close to the old design as I’ve seen. It shoots, snd kills well. Looks like we’re getting off the original question.

Thanks for the resounding votes, gentlemen, no election fraud here. Today I picked up an unfired model 83 .454 Casull that I purchased for quite an agreeable sum from a kind collector recently. It just looks and feel right. Looking forward to learning the way of the .454 and hoping to enter into that relationship humbly from the beginning. Thank y’all for the support, encouragement and wealth of advice. More questions surely to come as well as reporting back as to how the first range session goes.

Yes if for no other reason it gives you more options in a primer shortage.

Finally was able to get out and shoot my new 83 .454 Casull to acquaint myself with it. Fired a few cylinders of factory HSM Bear Loads 325 grains at 1350 or so according to the box. Felt great! I was pleasantly surprised at how manageable it was, granted I know that isn’t full house but it gave me a good little taste and it felt wonderful in the hand. Now I just need to find the right holster to wear on my hip while I backpack hunt…
