Bob are you getting slower these days??? that was posted back in July of 2021... bet you're still as good lookin today though... I'm still carrying my snubbie, same loads... but will admit, it rode in the truck for a couple weeks this summer, when we had the 100+ degree heat index...
thinking it may be time for some new grips... those checkered buffalo horn grips dig into the skin on my side if I can't wear a light weight shirt tucked in under my cover shirt...
been thinking about a custom set of smooth sheep horn... the couple of those I have on other guns seem kinda "grippy"... more so than finished wood, & would be more comfortable on the side skin, when being carried in the heat...

Here in the Alleghenies the threat levels are pretty low. Being a long time, (that means old) practical pistol participant we have to admit to an abiding affection for the 1911 pistol. However, when going about our daily business here on our place we often tote a revolver; could be one of our .32 H&Rs SSs or a Model 29 during deer season. But when we go to town, or further away, we tote one of our CCOs. Caliber can be .45ACP, .38 Super, or 9mm; depends on our whim.
Photo to come is a DW Custom Shop CCO in .38 Super; one of our favorites. Guess it qualifies as a single action.

I've been carrying this Colt SAA in 44-40 around lately. I'm usually carrying this or a Browning HiPower.

Yes, I think he called it the speed scabbard?
It's very comfortable to carry.

I have a buddy that was a SASS champion many years ago that carried a pair of fully engraved Colt SAAs, one nickel, one gold plated, in IWB holsters. He could operate a SA, DA, or auto like no other I've known! I don't have that skill with a SA revolver, so I mainly carry mine around the ranch or while hunting. My buddy at O'Rourke Leather knows I love Askins Avenger style holsters and made this prototype up with scrap leather a number of years ago for me. If I ever get skilled enough with a SA revolver, I wouldn't hesitate to carry this setup further than the property line. Dang, that gives me an idea or two!

S.A.'s a bit harder to conceal in most cases. The few people I see open carrying in my rural county, or up in the hills, do tend to be S.A.'s or 1911's. Just saw a youtube video where 2 so far, guys have had their revolvers snatched outta the holster while in line somewhere. I didn't catch the state. Here, we all can spout solutions to this. Will just say, the higher levels of alertness cannot be maintained for long.

I have carried my .500 Linebaugh a few times in one of Doc’s IWB Holsters. It stays put and if I have to shoot anything it should stay put also!

Will just say, the higher levels of alertness cannot be maintained for long. For me to conceal comfortable was a matter of finding the right soft holster with a quality belt clip. No idea who made the holster, I found it at a cheap sale and it was perfect, I just had to trim the length, works perfectly for my shorty. It’s comfortable carry for me and deploys easy enough..........I’ve seen lots of guys wearing firearms that it appeared just about anyone could snatch off of them. Recently saw one leaning over a store counter using a debit card machine to pay and his OWB gun at 5 o’clock position towards me. Attachments:

Yeah, at a blade course, we swapped blue guns into our ccw holsters, pat downs and double check each other for real anythings. I disarmed one of the instructors of his S.O.B. carried gun. If your printing, only you won't know.

Is a single action a good choice for concealed carry?
Can be.
Are there better choices? Quite possibly... all depends on quite a few variables.
I'll carry a single action when in remote areas, not concealed, unless weather dictates a jacket/coat. When in the city, my choice is not a single action... better options all around in my opinion.

My FMA guru is a retired Navy SEAL. He trains us heavily in weapons retention in his firearms classes.
One thing he is adamant about is the effectiveness of a blade in the clinch and scuffle. If someone goes for the gun, your objective is to keep them from using it on you. Cut the forearm muscles as you hold on to the wrist or even the gun itself.
He also says to avoid holsters that are behind the hips if at all possible. He carries appendix as do most of us after going through the class. Getting a blue gun taken from you repeatedly over a weekend teaches you what works.
One scenario we usually use when doing the law enforcement training is a multiple subject room entry with three of us in a room with about five officers doing the tactical entry. We have practice marking blades and they use simunitions in their duty weapons. During their first runs, we rarely get hit, they usually wouldn't have made it. Very eye opening to everyone who takes the course.
