Got my second gun for Africa a little quicker than I figured on. Mine is almost finished but a very good forum friend offered me this beauty that he had & I couldn't turn him down. Same caliber I have ordered, and same barrel length but this one is a Rolls Royce! It has the octagon barrel, inverted muzzle crown, sling swivel studs, discontinued ivory micarta stocks, a trigger that breaks like frozen lettuce & probably a few other things I'm missing. I did order the other one with the Lovell mount when it gets here but still, there's a big difference in guns. I started out by using John Taffin's pet load as my control load, you have to start somewhere. I found out my cast loads were a bit soft at this velocity. Only one load showed promise but it's very early it the test. My first cast loads at 50 yds needed some help so that's why I switched to John's load to get started. I was lucky to have about 30 Hornady 210 gr XTP's on hand, it's rare for me to have any jacketed bullets. You can see what a beautiful gun this is, wow! I'm am a proud owner of a gun that shoots as good as it looks. The first 3 shots at 100 yds went about 1 3/4" & a bit high, I was really happy. Now I'll chase that group with some harder cast bullets & see what happens. This was yesterday. Dick

That’s the nicest finished and fitted FA I’ve ever handled. Perfection! Good luck with it!!! I can’t believe you conjured it from OR!!!

Honestly I can't either! One thing I forgot, the speed over the clock was just a bit over 1700 fps with the Hornady 210's. I went back to the range a second time yesterday when I remembered I had some heavy GC bullets I had made up from a mold that friend Todd Corder had given me 3-4 years ago & I had never tried them. I loaded some up with 19.5 grs of H110 & his bullet that weighed 273 grs from my alloy & ripped back to the range & put up a target at 50 yds & ran 4 shots down range. You can see on the first target that 3 of them were low & the 4th shot slipped just under the paper. It looked like the bullet wanted to shoot but maybe needed just a bit more powder. The cases were falling out of the gun so I loaded up a few more with 20.0 grs of H110 & went back this morning & ran 4 more down range at 50 yds & came up with 4 shots under 1 1/2", & you can see the velocity on the target, I was shocked, that's a big 41 bullet for that kind of speed. Don't use these loads in your gun without working up to them slowly!!! Oops, 1480 fps!! These are tight chambered guns with very little cylinder gap & this is a 10" barrel so that explains the high velocity for a 273 gr bullet. Dick

I had to twist Dick’s arm to get his okay to send it out. I figured seeing this gun going with Dick is the closest thing I will ever get to Africa so why not. Like I have mentioned before, we are just caretakers of these guns and it is so much more fun to see them used rather than let them sit in the safe.

That gun has made it's rounds on this forum and I may probably will never be the owner of it, but I'll always want to be the owner of it!
That's quite a spicy load for a heavy 41 bullet but totally understandable with the given parameters!

Great Dick!
I was thinking the other day about trying to shake this one loose from the tree but figured it would never happen.
There's an antelope somewhere in NM that needs that one...
Good luck!

Bushy, I was thinking the same thing about an antelope and Muley in Wy, I can’t wait to get my 414SM built and back from Jack. Once that happens, The 10.5” 357Max will be going to the Mrs. who has shown more interest in handgunning some game on purpose. The FA is a good looking gun though. Trapr

Not only did the .45 make me envy you a bit,, seeing that .41 made it even worse. A FINE looking gun, and knowing the friendships around here,, not surprising. There's game in Africa that's doing like a short-timer in the military; "Counting down the days!" They are doomed!

Not sure if he ever fired it 😂

Sheesh, took long enough

I took that gun as my primary gun and carried it every day on last years elk hunt in eastern Oregon. That was the trip where all I saw was wolf sign and not a single elk!

I think Robb told me he fired 15 rounds through it, so far I've got about 75 rounds down the barrel. I can go two ways with these bullets, either use my gas check molds or water quench my bullets, either way will work. Or, there is one other way...gulp! Use a jacketed bullet, and they did shoot awesome! Thanks Robb for such an outstanding gun, and also my old Mississippi buddy too!!!!!
