Aye, thanks for the advice. If the 2x silver LER wasn't working out well on the S.S. SBHH I'd swap it to the 430 and put the dot sight on the single-action, but no. Will want a blue/black scope eventually.

Groo here My best friend and I were regulars at SSK "back in the day", He went with a 375JDJ and I had a 45-70 [both 14 in ported and TSOB mounts.] The 375 was scary accurate and flat shooting.[for a pistol] The 45-70 was a 150 yd sledge hammer and mine was cut for 500 gr Hornidy's 458 bullets. The thing was , you would think the 500 bullets had radar as they all seemed to go the same place. You need to "learn" to shoot the BIG Contenders, they will hurt you if you don't... Once you learn, most are manageable by most people.. The only one that was a problem was a 50 Alaskan 14 in on an Oncore cut to use 50 BMG bullets. That one is a real Monster..

I use to hunt with a TC 12" 45/70. It has a muzzle brake but the recoil was still brutal. It was fun when I was in my early 20's but I would not shoot it at all now. I will stick with my super accurate no recoil 6.5 JDJ. :.) I shoot my contender carbine barrels mostly now.

I was reading thru these posts, but everyone seems to shoot the big boomers with both hands and a death grip. I almost always shoot with one hand ( R) and on long shots brace my left hand on my right wrist. I’ve used the 375JDJ a LOT, but a few years ago stepped up to the .378GNR to get a few hundred FPS more out of them. I’ve also got rid of the encores and heavy barrels, as they tend to nose down, especially on a moving critter. Before this last Africa trip I went to a G2 with a 12” thin tapered 378 barrel with a brake, as it really balances well, and saved 1 pound 4 ounces. I was very pleased with the light maneuverability of the G2 rig. Either off sticks or resting my fore arm on my pack, I find it much easier to shoot one handed. Yes, the guns still recoil (260 grain accubond in.375 on a 405 win case at 2270 FPS) let it come up, and along side your right side, not back into your face. Hold your grip and wrist tight, bend at the elbow. And yeah, don’t drop the gun!

am seeing people using their off hand to hold the fore grip rather than reinforcing the hand on the grip frame grip.
I shoot all my contenders like this, from 375 JDJ on down.
